Does the 1.9TDI Have a Re-Circ Dumpvalve?

Featured Replies

Hi guys/gals

I've got a 54 Plate 1.9TDI PD 105 with 118k

Noticing at low revs or holding the car on a hill or driving at low revs im getting compressor stall (chatter).

Is this normal for a Turbo Diesel? As this is my first.

Theres no chattering at higher revs say (2000rpm) and when your moving.

I had a 2.0 Astra Coupe Turbo, and the only time i've had this happen before was when the Re-Circ dumpvalve diaphragm tore.

Also noticed when giving it some onto the motorway, it plumes smoke when you start getting towards 3800rpm.

Now i've not had the inlet off to check if its starting to become clogged, but recently i've changed the fuel filter/air filter/oil and filter, aswell as some injector cleaner.

Does anyone else experience this, or is it a sign of my intake not being able to flow enough air to compensate for the fuel going in?

TDi's don't use a Diverter Valve they have a wastegate in the turbo housing.

Right, so that means its perfectly normal for there to be a little chatter?

The Coupe had a internal wastegate aswell as the recirc, but im not familiar with tdi's hehe.

Heard not to fit a atmospheric dv to a diesel, as a diesel needs the air to keep the performance up?

TDi's don't have a Diverter Valve (Dump Valve) and neither do they need one, be it Recirc or Atmos. You can but a kit which uses electrics to get you the noise but no other effect.

Diesels dont run a dump valve, they neither have a throttle body/flap or manifold vacuum to operate one.

If your chatter/rattle is at low revs/high engine load, it could be the DMF clattering off it's stops....

Definately Turbo stall, its also had a new clutch/flywheel at 108k.
