YOU KNOW WHAT.??

Im going to go out and buy enough yellow relective tape to cover my car, and then wrap my car in it.

Then I wouldnt need fog lights, because everyone else could see me.!!

Excuse me once again, but this thread was aimed at folk who wished to alter the sequence of which FOG Lights they preferred to switch on first, which I have provided a guided set of info as to altering the wiring, of which I have received a number of Silent Thank You's.

May I suggest to all those concerned, whom have poked their noses in as to whether they wish to either Dazzle the car in front or Dazzle the car at their back of them, to start another thread and kindly do something constructive instead of criticising someone who has provided useful info for people who wish to convert.

may i remind you that your thread title is a question.

REAR Fog light on first or FRONT Fog lights ?

i believe all posts have been on this topic

Nor have I seen anyone criticise you? Just discuss the pros and cons of fog lights?

I'd go further and say that the balance of opinion is that, if you can be bothered, the mod is worthwhile because there are occasional situations where you would want headlights and rear fogs, but could do without fronts.

very well put, also in this instance you will be aware it wont hurt to have your front fogs on aswell.

i just think its a pointless task switching your lightswitch round the other way when there is no actual need for it.

Except that it is not permitted to have front fogs on at the same time as main beam (IIRC - we had to look at this when putting fogs & driving lights on my brother's pseudo-monte carlo mini). I agree with the OP that it's more sensible to have independently switched fogs TBH.

Once again I agree fully, in heavy driving rain and spray, ie poor visability, the "rules of the road" insist on you using dipped headlights and also rear "foglights". But there would seem to be some European rules on car lights use, otherwise why would VAG configure the light switching mode in this way. It has to be said though, that it was, I think, VAG that started to "interlock" the front/rear foglight function in such a way that when you switched the lights off - and then on again, you had to deliberately select the fron/rear foglights if you needed them - not like the rest of the herd at that time, which left you to remember to switch the front/rear foglights off - and as we all know many people left them switched on for days/months/years - well that is what it looks/looked like!

Incidentaly, if it has not been mentioned before, on my 2000MY Passat, with no front foglights, the headlights need to be on before the rear foglights can be selected - this maybe is due to a change in the regulations, or it may reinforce the ruling that a car must first have front "big" lights on before you can select the rear foglights. On the other hand, if this is the way its meant to be, you would think that the wiring would disable the dipped and main beams when you switched on the front foglights - now that would make sense!

I liked the setup on my 1995 ZX, where I could have the rear fogs with either front fogs or headlights, but not with neither.

That said I also like the mechanical interlock that forces the fogs off when you turn the sidelights off.

You want to live down near me...

During autumn and winter its foggy most mornings and evenings. And when you get sea fog comming in it can be very bad... sometimes you can barely see 5-6 meters infront of you.

So I would say fog lights on my car are very useful.

That's the one time fronts are, but we rarely get that near me
