Anyone running Linux and WLAN with WPA/PEAP?

Featured Replies

Got an eee laptop a few weeks ago and am eager to set up a WLAN at my office. We have an old, unencrypted WLAN that works OK, but it will be shut down shortly so I must get at the new one that uses WPA2-Enterprise and PEAP (EAP-MSCHAPv2).

I found a kind of guideline on the web:

Advanced WPA configuration on the default Xandros (without needing ndiswrapper) [EeeUser Eee PC Wiki]

and even if I'm a complete Linux n00b I'll probably be able to follow it to the letter (with some variations in the wpa_supplicant.conf file suggested by SWMBO's eldest son who is familiar with Linux but, regretfully, lives 200 miles from here).

But maybe one or two of you already have done this and could give me some handy tips?

Looks like a well written guide, I'd say give it go, what you got to lose..? :)

I've never had any problems with wifi devices if they are natively supported by linux. Had a real pain with some wireless pci card, where I had to use ndiswrapper to try and get it working. In the end I just bought a replacement one

A few hours if I fvck everything up and need to reinstall and then do the adjustments to the original config that I've already accomplished :PBut of copurse that's a cheap price for the joy of writing command lines, it's as if I was back in the good old

Hmm, I've seen a few threads on the net suggesting that Linux and encryption isn't always a straightforward and simple combination...

...however, even if my Uni's network (including WLAN) seems to be windows-based, I've heard rumours that one of our IT techs uses a laptop running Linux. Maybe he has solved the knot, I've mailed him and wait for his answer.
