Octavia RS - high miles stamina?

Featured Replies

Hi just joined, great site! I have about £5k-ish to blow on an Octavia RS.

The RS really appeals to me on so many levels & £5K should get me one with I reckon 60k+ miles on it. Thing is I'm in sales & do about 30,000 miles a year so my query is will the RS be able to cope with that at this age & mileage? Note it's mainly motorway miles hardly any through towns. Basically I don't want to face any potential big bills like clutch, gearbox, turbo etc. I'll only keep it for maybe 2 years max. Also is it comfy on long journeys?

Also assuming the cambelts been done, what sort of costs will I be looking at for servicing after 60k miles? Is it every 10k miles or can it go to 15K?

Cheers for your advice, hope to be a regular on here soon

Mines happy at 103K, kept to the 10k interval to be safe and habit now.

Others have gone for much further in greater states of tune too.

For motorway, it will be fine, nice bit of orque to keep you moving and as to fuel, if you kep it sensible, lets argue 70, then I frequently see 32/4mpg.

I regulary do 200+ mile trips, and at a steady 70 it shows 40mpg (and my computer's roughly +-1% accurate). FWIW, Steady 80-85 shows 37.5mpg...

I bought my 54 reg 18000 mile VrS hatch in December 06 and it has now done 63000 miles im in sales too.

It was remapped (£300) at 50000 and cam belt changed.(£250)

I have been totally impressed with its comfort (better than my company Audi 1.8T sportsline) and reliability, only problems ive had is exhaust bracket come loose, rear wash hose fell off and CD goes to mechanic occassionally.

The service intervals on mine are 20000 miles or 2 years, its simple and independants are well cheap.

I needed new discs at 50000 miles - only @£200 fitted.

I like it so much im looking at a mark 11.

Oh and mine averages 34MPG fairly mixed hardish driving!

Going great so far.. I regularly (2 days per week) do a 80mile round trip and have no issues whilst averaging 40mpg if not caining it (75-80mph)

Regularly serviced you should have no issues other then general wear n tear (tyres, pads etc)
