Phone help pleeease

Featured Replies

Hello my friends.

I need someone to help me who knows about mobiles.

My Sony W880i has died, its not insured and miles away from my upgrade so my Dad has lent me his spare Motorola (I think its a V3). It was on 02 iirc but works just fine on my Orange sim. I can make calls, text etc.

I can't however send picture messages :( This may be tied into the fact it also has no WAPPY thingy also.

Anyone know how I can set it up? I could send and recieve picture messages before hand on the old phone.

Many thanks for your help

Ross

I'm no phone expert but have you tried sending yourself the service settings from the Orange website?

If not have a look here

yup, just go to the orange website and you can get the settings sent to your phone via text message

I suspect it is because it's an "o2" phone. I had the same problem when I tried using an old Vodafone contract phone with an orange PAYG sim.

Give Orange a call and explain that you can't send piccy messages, they should be able to talk you through the manual set up of WAP etc. for your phone.

Excellent thanks chap, now someone send me a picture :)

(nothing rude now, well not of yourselves anyhow)

How old is the Sony, because if it's under 12 months old you should be able to get it repaired under your contract. The phone itself has a warranty.

Some are 12 months as per the manufacturers, but other networks sometimes extend it to the contract length as it's a term of the contract.

Just over 12 months but its on an 18 month contract.

My old Sony 810i only had a 12 month warranty ( will tell you at the back of the Instruction book ) but my new C902 has a 24 month warranty. Check the book as all sony phones now carry a 24 month warranty. ( depending on age )

Worth phoning Orange and politely asking them how they are keeping their side of the contract to provide you with the original phone if it has broken inside of 12 months.

They might offer you a new phone if you take out a 12 month contract as O2 certainly will make you a good offer to keep you :)

it always works.if you send a picture to your own number, then you can send them to others.dont know why it works but its always worked for me.

Nope, Orange wont offer jack as the handset and contract as separate entities in the contract. ;)

And Orange really dont care if you leave. SWMBO wanted her old handset unlocked for her dad and was off to buy a new one. Did the old "I'll leave' and they basically said they could disconnect her there and then without any 30 day notice.

So much for being with them for over 10 years, as have I.

Was she on everyday 50 as they were desperate and paying people to get off that.

Orange don't like it, but check the contract wording carefully as if they lock you into 18 months service with a SIM and phone then if the phone packs up after 13 months they would find it very very hard to keep you from walking out of the contract as it might be considered an unreasonable condition or term in the contract.

I know somebody who did that to a mobile company ;) and won, apparently very easily too.

Personally after being with Orange for 2 years they will never get a penny and neither will any company they have a controlling share in.

Nope, Dolphin 35.

The are appaling at how they treat loyalty.

The W880i has a two year manufacturers warranty

If you want to know the date of manufacture check the imei lable for a code that reads xxWyy where XX is the week and YY is the year.

Very surprised the w810i didn't have a 2 year warranty, if it didn't it's likely that it was a grey (Import). I was under the impression that all SE's since well before then had 2 years.

Here are a few others...

on T-Mobile if I stick my SIM card into another phone it seems to auto request the settings.

But you can get them sent from the website.

02 were a little crappy for customer service (if you bought the online tariffs as you had to email cust services or ring the high priced service line.

I thought all phones just had a 1 year warranty? Thanks Decron, this is somethiong I will have to check.

I'm likeing T-Mobile as my line rental got

I am on an O2 contract, and SWMBO is on Orange PAYG. Since O2 handsets are unlocked, she 'inherits' my handsets once I get a new one and I change the settings to the ones on this page. We've had some issues this time around as the phone she was using died before my contract was up and I get her a grey import as a replacement, however the settings still allow picture messaging etc, she just can't get voicemail notification as wherever the phone originated from used a slightly different system apparently. I've found out how to hack the phone to fix that, but I'm currently lacking one of these:

Anyway, if you're still stuck, drop me a PM before the end of work today and I can talk you through it - otherwise it might not be until after the weekend...

We get this all the time with Nokia exchanges.

The firmware on the generic handset may not be approved for use on a certain network (Such as Orange or T mob) and may have issues. These can include such problems as MMS, WAP, Text, call timers and a few others. It may also be related to your sim card, especially if it's an older card.

3 is the worst. If we get a generic hadnset through to replace a 3 handset it causes real problems because a lot of the 3g functions just wont work. It's not always as simple as changing the firmware either.

I don't think this was ever supposed to be easy
