My VRS isn't as good as it should be?!

Featured Replies

My Fabia VRS isnt as god as it should be, dont get me wrong, i love her but there is something not right and i can't fix it.

Its a basic 55 plate with 40k on the clock, but i'am only getting 38mpg out of it, and as i'am doing about 1000mile a week thats a big issue, i've checked the very obviouse tyre presures and there good but skoda wont touch it as they tell me there are no warning lights on. My tick over sits at 900rpm which seems high and i'am a little concerned it may have been mapped, badly. it does exactly 10mph at tick over in second gear, does this sound right to anyone? How quick should it do 0-60 if its still a standard 130bhp, if this sounds like i'am getting concerned about some stupid un=important numbers, its because i'am a driving instructor nd i teach in it. and yes its quite scary! But great fun!

On a more tivial note, the door locks drive me potty, is there any way ican change the settings to open them all with one press of the remote?

38mpg is a bit extreme. Doing 1000 miles a week I assume most of your driving is Mway and A roads - what kind of speed do you do, and are you driving it "diesel" if that makes sense?

900rpm is exactly the right tickover (I think technically it is 896rpm or something like that)

10mph at tickover in 2nd is about right too.

0 - 60 should be around 9 seconds

Aha! I just twigged it's a learner car... I wouldn't expect 50mpg out of a car being driven by learner drivers. ;) Especially in typical learner built up areas. :)

It sounds like the car is operating fine to me. How do the students find the car? I imagine fairly forgiving for the odd slip of the clutch? :D

Students like it, till i make em open it up on an a road, then they either fall in love or hate it depending on their constitucien(spelt very wrong) I have a work mate in another one the same whos getting 55mpg while teaching, maybe built u areas bt very gently driven, gonna take it out with a mate and a stop watch and check the 0-60 time, planning to teach performance driving and auto testing in it at some stage.

We use ours mostly for pretty short journeys (and then engine turned off for few hours) - averages 40mpg over all the year when used like this.

Take it on a run though and mpg soon improves - trip down South last year with fair bit of extra weight and plenty of speed and it averaged 52, 48, and 50 mpg over 3 tankfulls.

Hello and Welcome.

A number of things can affect economy.

The first three are relatively easy to check.

Driving Style, should be smooth and not all stop/go.

Tyre pressures, check these as even a small drop can affect the consumption.

Wheel alignment. check as well. a few degrees out and the car has to drag itself along.

Air filter, is it clogged up.

The next will require a dealer visit but can also affect economy.

MAF, the maf can cause the car to inject more fuel than it needs if its faulty.

welcome

Might be worth PM-ing ChrisGB, he has (or had) a Furby vRS as his driving school car so should be able to give you a good idea of mpg when used by learner drivers day-in-day-out.

Or PM Sharkrider for the same reason.

Welcome :)
