Boost gauge tap tdi - fittings

Featured Replies

Hi I need help tapping into the boost pipe at the left of the engine bay.

I bought a VDO kit but the nylon tubing is too inflexible and just kinks, and I cant find any other tubing small enough to fit the connectors so its back to the drawing board.

Would these two do the job well?

Or does the tap need to be more sophisticated?

this is the kit I have but the tube is just rubbish

That tubing looks ok.

But do you really need 30 meters of the stuff!! lol.

That looks about right for the hosetail too.

Where are you tapping it to?

The manifold or plactic pipe?

If its the manifold, just locktight it in once youve drilled and tapped.

If its the pipe, take the pipe off, drill a hole, and deburr, put the thread through, and put a nut on the back. Locktight it on and let it dry well before starting your engine. You wouldnt want the nut to come loose!

Allard EGR valve blank does the job for you, plus helps your engine :)

In the end I got some tubing from a local DIY shop.

I got one of those hosetails coming but I got one with a tapered end.

I've been told that this removes the need for a nut on the other side, as you simply drill a hole in the plastic pipe slightly smaller than the threaded end, then screw it in finger tight, the tapered end does the job of forming a seal.

Done it today.

2 problems.

When I floor the pedal in 3rd or 4th gear the gauge shoots up to 20-22psi, and holds there when I do a steady speed.

Not right is it. Car isnt remapped. Tuning box and decat exhaust system.

Also it vibrates like a demented dildo.

Any advice? Looks like I need a new gauge.

Swoosh are sh!te. Stay away.

I have a digital gauge on mine, runs 22psi and is steady. The car is mapped. I have had to factor out atmospheric pressure as it was reading about 37psi. But doing this on your readings gives only 8psi which is too low for a stock setup too? Not sure mate

I'll get some pics up of my fittings later - cant see anythin wrong with that side of things though - must be the gauge

^ thats what I used, and a tapered 1/4" hostail adaptor screwed into the plastic intercooler pipe

This is the closest thread I could find to my problem and I know one of you will be able to give me a hepling hand! Over the weekend I set about installing a boost gauge but am struggling to get the pipe inside the car. Maybe I need to get a longer tube and try the grommit behind the glove box? But, at present Im trying to go through the hole behind the instrument cluster but its proving a right bit I'm sure I can get to it if I remove the dash but this seems a bit extreme, where are your threads running?

Ideally I'm trying to bring the boost tube through the air vent on top of the right handside of the dash for the neatest install possible but may have to rethink this one :(

Lastly if my boost tube is coming off a Jabba EGR bypass pipe will I need a restrictor thingy' to cut down on the buzz or does this only exist if your tapping the boost pipe?

Thanks all, John

just ran it along the back and in through the passenger side, makes life a lot easier

Thanks Joel, I'll have to get myself to B&Q then for some new pipe, the one supplied with my gauge is only about a metre long!

What did you do about the buzzing you were getting? Did you get a restrictor thingy?

Thanks again, John

I got an air regulator valve from an auqatics shops.

its got two 4mm inputs and a screw top which you can adjust the airflow with to just the right point to stop the buzzing but keep it accurate
