Well yes, paint = colour coat + lacquer so you're removing part of the clear coat ... and while you're only removing microns, the whole paint + lacquer layer is typically only 20 micros thick or so IIRC, so if you remove say, 5 microns, that's 25% of the thickness.

Can you respray with lacquer once you've "corrected" the surface? :rubchin:

20 microns?!?!?!??! I would hope not............

Sure did and it's one of the best pieces of kit I have now, not as tough to move as the previous and who ever said that more length wasn't better?!?!

Yeah - it is much lighter and easier to maneuver around the car. Great find btw - thanks for the lead on that mate. Keep up the good work - love the right ups as always.

Ste.

Yes, I obviously underestimated paint thickness, however not by much. Clearcoat thickness - typically 50 microns (2 thou). Paint thickness another 5 thou or so... so a total of 250 or so.

The guy on this article reckons you would remove up to 3 microns at a time, of your 50. So with general erosion, and scratch depth, I guess the bottom of the clear coat is never far away ...

Just been in a long meeting and leaving work now so will have a look at this weblink later on and reply..........

i use a sander to polish my car :)

Excellent once again...i'm not bothered what car you detail, just love reading your posts..keep them coming !

By the way, why don't you enclose your carport with some plastic sheeting or such like?..weather wouldn't be a problem then.
