Me again with another detail on a lovely Subaru Impreza WRX STI Impreza slightly tweaked by Prodrive running 300BHP:

G220 vs Subaru Impreza WRX STI Prodrive..... - Detailing World

Would love to get rid of the Superb and have one of these but I noticed the fuel gauge heading down over the 3 days I had the car............

You clearly have too much time on your hands :P

Another job well done, hope the owner paid you well

Thanks Richie.........

Paid well? I have no idea what your talking about.............:P

Fantastic job. I'd love for you to give my car the works but there's no point until I get the chips etc sorted out. Until then keep the updates coming, I can't believe how good that subaru looked when you had finished.:drool::drool::drool::drool:

I'm always interested and one day I hope to make the trip down to you and pick up some tips. My family seem to rely on my every year to polish their cars so around June time I have

Mine

Swmbo's

Mum's

Mother in laws cars to clean up. It allready takes me the best part of a day per car but I do the whole job manually and haven't looked at paint correction, I just get the polish and gloss applied.

Cheers George..............it sure is the electric meter...........

Good job mate, think that you will have to ask for a Metaboo for crimbo though mate as i bet it was a killer doing that as i remember doing my old mans with the UDM and that was a killer

Another superb effort. Looking at your threads has got me into detailing. I have finally taken the plunge and posted some pics of my Superb on here and Detailing World. Very early days yet but always look forward to reading your next post. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the comment........

It does take time with the G220 and the UDM but it's a simple machine to use and I fully intend to change to a Rotary, just want to get one and practice with one over the winter months, thinking I will get my parents to bring me back a Flex from the US around christmas time.........

Looks well mate..........

Thanks. I would love to be able to play around with the looks of the car a bit more but its a company car - for now anyway.

You may be able to offer me some advice as you run one these underrated beasts yourself. I dont need to correct the paint but would like to get a polisher to get the best results. Based on your experience, what would be my best options as I start out. Any advice greatly appreciated.

You can always do things to a company car............:D

If your just looking to get a polisher to apply wax to the car then I suggest you get a cheapy from Halfords but IMHO by hand is much better........

If your feeling flush then you can pick up a Megs G220, which is the machine I use, for around £150 and you will be able to apply all sorts of waxes, cleaners, sealants and do some paint correction in the future if your wash process is not too clever?

As I said if you want to apply wax then hand is more than good enough......only use my G220 and UDM when paint correcting customer's cars...........

Looks fantastic. I do get a bit disturbed by the use of the word "correction" all the time, though. AIUI basically it means "machine polishing the surface to remove a layer of paint until the whole surface is level with the bottom of the scratches". So while the results look very nice, the paint is now thinner. Hopefully one day someone will come up with a simple way of filling them back up, instead of sanding down the whole car :D

Not a personal criticism, just the use of the word.

While I understand your comment it's not technically true........

You are removing a layer of lacquer as that is what get's scratched and causes the light to re-direct all over the place before it hits the paint and bounces back.........you are in reality removing microns of lacquer.......

Correction in my opinion is as close a word as can be to describe the process.......

Filling them back up is something you can do now with waxes and polishes that contain fillers such as AG SRP, problem is that the scratches will always be there and they will come back to haunt you at some stage........to prevent the scratches, if you can get a good wash process then your sorted............

Fantastic results. :)

Well yes, paint = colour coat + lacquer so you're removing part of the clear coat ... and while you're only removing microns, the whole paint + lacquer layer is typically only 20 micros thick or so IIRC, so if you remove say, 5 microns, that's 2.5% of the thickness.

Can you respray with lacquer once you've "corrected" the surface? :rubchin:
