Recall Letter

Featured Replies

I had a letter today saying there is a recall on my 53 plate vRS.

I phoned the dealer up and asked whats on?

They told me (like i was thick) "its a ECU software update, just like updating windows". lol.

So i started to ask if it was a flash, how long it would it take etc.

Anyway... as a result of this conversation, i found out fome facts for people who may want it done. (i think its free).

1. It will update the fueling somehow (guy didnt quite know how).

2. Emissions should be better.

3. The engine should run smoother, and not so tractor like at idle (but stll rattle like a TDi though).

4. It may get rid of your remap if you have one!

5. But on the plus, if your standard, you may gain throttle responce, and small power increase (but the guy said dont get too excited, 1% if your lucky!).

HTH some people.

Dave

Will look into it :)

Ive got the recall number if you want?

Its in the car, so ill post it tomorrow.

Somthing like '26H2'. Just phone the dealers and they could tell you if your due an upgrade.

Hi,

Have you any more information on this recall, does it only affect the early models or is my 2005 likely to be covered?

Have you had it done yet? can you confirm any improvements?

Regards,

Mike

It'll get done at a service, and is the dealers way of keeping the cash coming in, as they can claim you were having issues and the update cured it.

Unless you're having issues, it'd get done at next service ;)

Mines is a 53 plate. Is there a chassis range that is affected?

Right, im a little savage as i had my car booked in today at 8am, and left at 9.30, with no upgrade!!

Its NOT for the vRS, its for the 1.4's . Not sure which one, but if you have a 1.4, you may aswell get it booked in.

Skoda UK are deffo getting a letter from me! I dibbed out on £100 overtime to go and get it done!

Did the dealer send you a letter, or did you arrange yourself?

Eitherway, the dealer should have told you you werent affected. The other question is why rush to get an ECU upgrade?

If it aint broken dont fix it :)

Agree

I wonder if this is what happened to my Fabia 1.4 tdi; below is a PM I sent to VRSTU.

I had my car serviced at 20,000m @ my Skoda Dealer, when I got it back it had lost its low down torque and needed slightly more throttle. It had lost it's zip and was pretty docile. I also noticed a drop in MPG and on odd occassions a slight black exhaust haze. It was a similar feeling to having a petrol engine retarded by about 2-3 degrees.

Unfortunately I had left both the PD160 components fitted to the car, however they did not comment on them.

Telephoned the Dealer and asked what had they altered on the engine, "nothing apart from a diagnostic check". They offered to do another check and re-set it.

So I replaced the original air ducting and they had the car for approx 20 minutes and all now seems about 95% as good as what it was before.

The question is - with the PD160 parts fitted, would the diagnostic check show up and compensate/de-tune the engine because it had a better air flow?

That's the only conclusion I can come to, what are your thoughts?

On reading about the Skoda letter, I reckon that they had applied the 'latest upgrade' to my car, which is what caused the 'retarded feeling' and if that is the case, I don't recommend it.

DB.

It was the dealer i bought the car off of that sent the letter to me. And they said that they could do it, but it was a long way to go, so i booked it in locally.

Savage!!
