(Don't bother with the "no no's ) The reason for doing this was that I wasn't to impressed with the light output with the "bi-halogen" lights. It ought to be possible to specify Xenon headlights on a new car.....:thumbdwn:

One thing you have to think about is if you have the curve projecting headlights is that the swiveling of the projectors can make the wiring to the bulbs break. I have had to replace a bulb/wire assembly because of a broken wire to the bulb.

There is another issue with this. The headlamp assembly only uses one bulb. The flash or hi-beam is run through a prism type mechanism meaning it will use the same bulb. If your using a Xenon bulb it means that when you flash your lights the bulb will have no where near enough time to reach peak operating temparature resulting a poor flash (As Xenon bulbs actually take up to 3 seconds to reach operating temp). You might not notice this but others certainly will and so could your MOT tester if so inclined. The regualtions in Norway may be different but in the UK it could be an issue.

I would pay extra for sufficient headlights even on a shopping trolley if I lived in a country that didn't have lights in the supermarkets..

Is the Fabia just a shopping trolley (what is the Octavia MKII?, a semi shopping trolley??) Surely that is not what the Fabia MK2 is sold/marketed as?? I find the MK2 Fabia almost perfect for my use, the one thing I was unhappy with was the headlights, which I think could have been better when you are willing to pay for it.

The daylight running lights/TFL which are obligatory in Norway (and hopefully soon in all other european countries) makes the "xenons won't light up if you hit the high beam just for a quick flash" point mute, as the bulbs are powered and reach full lighting power a few seconds after having started the engine. Is there a law in the UK that says that you can not use your headlights even in daylight?

Well you have a solution but in the UK no one uses their headlamps in the day (We like to be able to see our motorcyclists) so therefore it's an issue

Octy has xenons available on everything except the Classic trim.

I have a Roomster which I fitted Phillips Extreme bulbs to and these have been excellent. You have found you needed to change something and you have done it however in the UK it's not that simple.

I am not familiar with the roomsters headlamp units but, if they are like the OctyII's and have a 2 seperate bulbs, 1 for low (in the projector bit) and 1 for high (not in projector bit) then a HID conversion, although of dubious legality with the D.o.T etc will be fine.

The warm up issues that people mention will occur every time you switch your lights on, they will fire up instantly to a very bright light and then take a second to settle to there normal light output. When your lights are off, I beleive that when you flash your lights, both the low and highs will fire up. As the highs are still going to be halogens then no problem. In other words you do get light instantly when you "flash" someone. When your running with lows on and flash someone, the highs will just fire up.

Reports suggest that the aftermarket HIDS dont like been constantly flashed (constant start up and off) compared to halogens or OEM HIDS although when I had them I didnt have too much trouble with them.

I have been a "biker" for quite a few years... I didn't touch anything with four wheels (cage) as long as the roads were clear from ice,and I was not working..

I have been riding everything from a Yamaha SRX600 to a Fireblade both on track and on the road for a "few" years and I would NEVER use lights that disturb bikers on my "cage"..

The issue concerning bikers not being seen has a lot to do with how the individuals ride their bikes/ how they place themselves in the lanes. Using "high beam" and placing themselves in "the wrong lane" is just annoing. A biker using low beam and riding "correct" is both easier to see, and easier to relate to in traffic!!

haven't you read the laws on xenon lights? they are illegal when not fitted to a type approved head light unit, auto levelling or headlight washers are also a requirement. i can't believe you want to go ahead and make your car illegal and dangerous just for the sake of some chav lights.
