Few Questions from an amateur

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Just a few dumb sounding questions, that despite having been into modified cars for some years I've never really been able to answer myself.

  1. What's the difference between lowering springs and a full kit??
  2. Does a panel filter need to be replaced every service (IE: 10k miles)
  3. Does an induction kit (I just want a fancy green cone in the end bay really) do much?? (Has anyone got any pics of one fitted to a furby vRS?

Cheers guys,

~Tom

1. Lowering springs are just stiffer springs. They give a firmer ride and slightly lower stance however the car will not ride very comfortably.

A full kit comprises springs and uprated shock absorbers this gives better handling and consistent ride quality. There are fixed height and adjustable height/damping options availiable.

2. Skoda quote 40k for the panel filter change but this is a bit long. If you have a standard paper filter I would replace it every 10k but thats just me. If its a performance filter it needs to be cleaned every 10k but not thrown away.

3. Open cones suck in hot air from under the bonnet and reduce performance.

1 lowering spring lower the car PERIOD

2 a full kit depends on your wallet /credit card (i can seriously condemn the use of a credit card ):(

diesels love cold air the colder the better

i noticed a 3bhp increase from summer to winter temps (but you need big hairy ones to use the extra @ sub zero temps ) just get the max amount of cold filtered air into the engine (any filter inside the engine bay can only draw warm air ) so only draw air for as near the front of the car as possible

Cheers for the response guys.

So that's a definate no-no to the induction kit.

Can anyone recommend a good full lowering kit that won't break the bank?? (£300 or so).

Anything by KW, Koni, Eibach, Weitec do some do kits too

Cheers for the response guys.

Induction kits do and can work providing they have a cold air feed.

How can I ensure it's getting cold air rather than warm?

Can anyone recommend a website to purchase a good lowering kit?? One that is well priced and delivers quickly!!

As Ross says, ensuring a proper cold feed is essential. I'm not that familiar with Fabias, but there are 2 ways of doing this:-

1) Like an Octy A4 Carbonio, where all that passes through the engine bay is a feed pipe; the filter is relocated in the NSF wing cavity.

2) Build a "false wall" in the engine bay, separating the filter void from the engine and radiator exit.

the key problem with the fabia vrs is that the hose from the turbo intake pipe to the airbox is very long, and fitting an induction kit with a cold air feed is difficult. search for bmc induction kit in the fabia section and youll see that a shorter pipe is needed

I have acone filter on mine. i have taken the top of the air box off and have the standard cold air feed still going through.

I am gettin an amazing sound (none like i have ever heard from a diesel).

I cant say that it increases the power, but it doesnt lose power.

plus with my remap i was gettin a **** load of black reak, that has been reduced ten fold with the filter.

got any pics?

and so as declared the words of paul (redbaron) hath come true
