Lupo GTI

Featured Replies

I'm yet to see a truely negative comment about them. There's gotta be a downside besides possibility of clutch and gearbox and poor boot.

What about annoying dash creaks and rattles? Do the doors leak? (These things happen on my damned fabia!!)

Our Sport is fine. No rattles, no leaks. It's 8 years old too. The only issue is minor rust on the roof channels.

What was that tune somebody made up for the Lupo GTi? 'It's small, it's fast, it's coming past' or something...?

The only problem I had with my Sport was the common pedal box failure, covered by VW :)

I had a Lupo GTI - you can see pictures of it on the Cool Wall on here (under cool).

The engine is the same as the Polo GTI but the gearboxes are different (both 5 and 6 speed). To be honest I haven't heard of any serious common problems with them. There is a problem with the pedal box on the 100bhp sport models but I haven't heard of it affecting the GTI.

ClubLupo is an excellent website.

Why don't you consider a normal 1.9 TDI Fabia? that is what I currently drive - it's plenty quick enough and can be made quicker with a remap if required.

Wow! Loads of replies here.. and all gleaming reviews for the Lil'Lupo! Loads a Thanks!

I'm getting much more serious on the idea now but the market seems a little distorted.. Parkers says 4500 for a 02/60k independent dealer, but most online are 5-5500!

Doesn't help that I'm in Middlesex and most I've found are in London... I'll keep looking as at a push I'll go 5200.

My only really worry is that you can get much younger with much lower miles with pretty similar performace in the form of Ka's Corsa's and MG's (of course, the 25 MG thingy would be a pain to get service and god help if it got smashed)..

found a Sport Ka, 2004, 15k for 5k... makes a 51plate 60k lupo look a bit old..

thoughts?

Rob :-)

Depends if you want Girly.. the sport Ka is IMHO.

With only around 1,000 in the UK you will need to travel to find a decent one. I looked at 3 in total - two had poor body/paint repairs. I travelled to The Isle of Wight to get mine!

Prices seem to be falling back a bit lately but they are still expensive for what they are . . . bit like the bmw mini in that respect.

Yup, took me a *long* time to find a good one. Ended up buying from a private seller in Manchester (I'm in Glasgow). I can second the fact that a lot have been dunted at some point.

Also, 950 were sold in the UK - of those, 625 remain registered at DVLA!!!

WOuldnt fit my buggy in the boot of one if that helps? Gorgeous lookin little things tho - I wouldnt turn my nose up at the one I saw a few weeks back at a meet, happy owner too

One of the mechanics at Verve VW in Glasgow (again, another sign of how good they are) has one. It's often got a buggy rammed in the back. I don't know how he manages it - I've got a cd changer mounted to the rear seat backs, and there's about 8 inches between that and the boot sill.

Looked at a corrolla.. lowest insurence quote was £960.. blah!.. Lupo comes in at 690 Comp. That's only just 100 more than my 100bhp Furby! The Lupo's looking harder and harder to resist! I had no idea so few exsisted though, worrys me I won;t find one close engouth... I have seen one online that I'm trying to arrange going to see but that won't be till tuesday and I'm worried it'll go by then.. oh well, can't be the only one.. but is prob one of only a few!

Thanks again guys and gals! Don't think i won't keep an eye on these forus if I do go VW on ya!

Rob :-)

You'll quickly find that most of the big VW forums are full of ***** anyway :)

I find Parkers prices are often a bit off. A car is worth what someone will pay for it.

No, plenty of places for service, parts availability good. At the risk of upsetting the Rover fans, I wouldn't have one if you paid me though.

Ask yourself why the Lupo holds it's value more than the others.

Went to see a Lupo GTI today...

Never seen such a BAD used car.. 45K miles.. I don't think so!

Ripps in the seats and filthy interior! New rear end, new front bumper. New Headlamps! Water in boot!!! rust around boot seals.. Non body coluerd panel glue stuff.. a badden, well and truly.. didn't even test drive it!

Gotta admit, looking at that on at 6k, next to my lil Furby.. my furby looked awesome.. has soured my Milk a little and made me realise now much car you get when you buy a fabia.. most people find it's interior dull, but I like it's solid understaed look..

Hmmm.. budget is spiraling outta control but still aiming for under 6k.

Hang on..6k? Furby VRS's under 50k are about for that, aint they?

Will they be any good.. should I stick With a Furby after having had a bunch a problems with my current one? I dunno.. I'm all confused now! B0ll0X!
