Driver side window force limiter glitch

Featured Replies

Every once in a while, the window closing function goes crazy. It behaves as if there is an obstruction (force limiter) and window rolls down when I try to close it by pull-fully-and-release the window-button.

If I pull-and-hold the window button, the window closes alright.

I suspect it is because of friction/rubbing around the glass (inside the door panel) which is making the computer think there is an obstruction.

Is there any easy way to lubricate/clean this stuff? Without ending up with a greasy window for the next 1 month? Btw, is it safe to spray generous amounts of WD-40 on the window glass, both inside & outside?

Thanks.

WD40 is likely to create more problems than it solves. It will gunk up with accumulated dust, and may degrade the rubber. My guess would be PTFE, but wait for a proper mechanic to answer.

Try a silicone spray, i.e. Screwfix catalogue number 13662-91 at £3.89. You can also get the stuff from firms that sell curtain rails etc. as it's used to lubricate plastic curtain hooks and runners. It doesn't leave a mess like WD40 and is safe for plastics and rubber. However, I would question why you would need it as the force limiter usually requires a serious obstruction before the window reverses.

think will take it to the dealer as the car is still under warranty. its a long drive and they are bit dim-witted. hope they can sort it out.

Found something on the net:

driver window doesn't close - International Audi A2 Owners' Club

mine still does it, i just put up with it, i did think it may have something to do with the k wire on the after market stereo but i couldn't be 100% sure, i may try lubricating it but i've put up with it for 4 years now and it's no big deal tbh..

mark.

Mine does this occasionally, it's not a great problem unless it's raining:D

Lubricate the rubbers then take the window up to the top. Then hpld the window switch up again and you should hear a click. this resets the one touch and the force limitation.
