Was round my mates last night watching UFC 88 and when it finnished i got in my Octy VRS and it couldnt find Reverse it just "grinded like id missed a gear" so then i put the car into 1st and it couldn't find that either. It was only after i took the handbrake off and tried reverse again that everything started working again. Anyone have any ideas as to what this could mean as im not mechanically minded at all?

did you park the car in gear on a hill

No definatly wasnt in gear, and wasn't parked on a hill it was however parked half on the road half on the foot path. Everything seems ok with it now, just a little concerned though.

im stumped then , the only thing i could think of is that it maybe rolled forward putting pressure on the gear box but this would only happen if left in gear. hopefully it was a one off

If it happens again, engage the clutch, stop the engine, declutch, restart the engine, and then try it.
