Oil temp gauge

Featured Replies

Has anybody installed an oil temp gauge on their Fabia VRS?

I would like one so I can keep an eye on engine temps to make sure its warmed up fully before I give it WOT, and also because I pop out to France in the summer and it would be good to keep an eye on the oil temp in 45 degree heat.

I've already got a boost gauge and a volt gauge on the way and got a little idea of a tidy place to mount them... ;) which should be revealed provided it all goes smoothly.

So yeah does the sender get installed in the sump plug or can one of these bad boys be used

I wouldn't bother. It's not as if you can 'adjust' anything to control it anyway. Modern cars are pretty good at taking care of these things themselves.

Just start her up, drive a mile or 2 and enjoy...!

I suppose you're right. I'll just stick to the voltage and boost then I guess.

I'll post pics up when the install is done.. :)

cant wait to see the pics

if only i had the skills to do this myself as i would really like a boost gauge

I would have an oil temp gauge, its just as important if not more so than a coolant temp gauge imho. Making sure is oil is up to temperature and also would indicate if a cooler is required if your running a tuned motor. I would get an adapter personally that puts the temp sensor in with the pressure switch, sump temp is pretty pointless and wont be as accurate.

Do ya know where I can get one Lummox?

Sorry for dragging up an oldish thread.

Got my boost gauge installed today, pics to follow, & I am really thinking about putting an oil temp gauge in but I'm having trouble finding an easy place to mount the sensor itself.

Does anyone know where to get one of these from: -

Cheers in advance.

I went for the rather hardcore option - My (combined) coolant and oil temp gauge was installed during a service, so the sump was emptied and then drilled to tap the sender into the sump itself, about 2" to the left of the sump plug. Seems to work well, but I have to remind myself that the oil in the engine might be a few degrees higher than that in the sump - Gives me the best idea of when the engine is working hard though. :)

Mine looks like this, only it's black and has no "oil/water" on it - I just know the top one is oil and bottom is water on mine. :D

Yeah I was hoping for something little less drastic. :D

I thought you can get kits that use the sump plug hole, to save tapping or removing the sump...I may have even seen these kits on flea bay.

I'm really after something that can be fitted without draining the oil from the system, or only lossing a small amount that can just topped up again.

Only had it serviced 2 months ago so don't need to change the whole lot yet.

Another thing to keep in mind is that my (original) engine was cooked at the top end because there was no coolant circulating at the top  - even though the temperature gauge was displaying normal temperatures at all times...

So having an oil temperature gauge sure isnt such a bad plan ;)

Looking round its either tapping the sump/sump plug or a spacer that fits between the engine & the oil filter.

Now as I've never been under this car how easy is it to get something in between the two & can it only be done by daining the engine of oil?

Something worth pointing out is the Ibiza 130 Sport came with an oil temp gauge orignally iirc.

So somewhere in SEAT etka is the OE temp sender that fits into the oil filter housing.

Sorry for dragging this up again but has anyone found out anymore info on this?

Basicly I think you either have to tap the sump plug or put a spacer in between the engine & the oil filter, you can get them on ebay, to get the sensor in. I was really after another way myself but its not looking good.
