Front number plate black plastic bit

Featured Replies

Ok, i have found a load of posts about this but none that actutally answer my question so please bear with me.

Is it possible to remove the black plasticy bit that my front number plate sits on and to stick the number plate onto bumper.

Has anyone done this and has pics? And what is underneath, sitting at my desk at work at the moment pondering.

Thank you in advance

I've only see it removed on cars with the front ends cut out to make a "big mouth" bumper - something like skudmissile old car - http://briskoda.net/briskoda-members-cars/my-black-magic-fabia-vrs/105952/

I will ask him what was there when he removed the surround before he started butchering.

There is a colour coded one (yellow) in http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/front-plate-holder/77628/

Or a colour coded SE in http://briskoda.net/briskoda-members-cars/oilburninnuts-fabia-vrs-se/93143/ - see post 21

I know this doesn't answer your question directly, and apologies if you have seen these already

it would be possible as there is plastic behind it to stick the plate onto but the cover is there for a reason, it covers up the horrible looking bit. Afraid i've no pics of when i had mine off, to get colour coded, but i remember it being a flat piece of plastic with a dip surroiunding it and a bunch of holes for the clips to go into.

Would the plate not cover all the wee horrible bits.

I could get it colour coded but really wana keep it standard and at least i could put the black plastic bit back on.

It just looks a bit of an after thought.

I quite agree. I have a black car and it's still - well, a plasticky snout really.

Ideally, it'd be similar to the upper grille. Vertical strakes, chromed, with a chrome surround. Numberplate mounting in the middle somewhere/somehow.

No plate wouldnt cover the bit as it isnt as big as the black plasticy bit!

Id love to see pics of just the black bit removed if anyone has any?

Dave

I had mine off a few weeks ago.

Its messy looking under there!

heres a pic of mine

How do you take off the holder?

So is there screws behind the number plate or do you have to pull it off?

They are clipped in from the front.

Although not a vRS bumper, this shows what is left behind the black plastic numberplate surround. :)

This is what I've found behind the couple of vRS bumpers I've got. Not quite the same as the non-vRS bumpers. The raised bits stick out quite far from the bumper. Sorry the photoes not the greatest, it's off my phone.

Gona try and do something with a spare one I've got. But I've just painted my plinth and it looks a lot better.

Hope this answers you question.

The big bumpers combined with the sticky out number plate holder came about when Skoda wanted to use the Fabia in WRC but the car was a touch too short for the rules. Peugeot did the same with the 206 GT limited edition to get round the minimum length rule.

I do like the look of it colour coded on the blue/black cars but i think mine would look funny painted red.

Chris.

They are clipped in from the front.

can they be pulled off without removing the bumper?
