its odd, dont you think, that one one had skoda get to use the latest VAG technology with the 7-speed DSG but on the other hand they stick with a conventional handbrake rather than the electromechanical one found in many other new VAG cars ? we have one in our A6 and i rather like it. it auto releases when you press the accelerator (its an auto car - i gather they are a little more tricky on manual ones).

I think it's all a compromise between Skoda and the parent company. Personally, I really dislike the electrical handbrake. It never works quite how I'd expect.

You've just got to look at the engine choices. I think it's really odd that Skoda aren't getting the new CR 140 TDi. Why just the 170?

I've tried the auto handbrake on the Passat and I didn't find it especially useful, if it was part of standard spec I wouldn't care but I certainly wouldn't pay for it as an option. The traditional handbrake is just more reassuring when you pull it on.

Would have to say that the PD140 allows them to remain more competitive, in markets where annual registration expense is not linked to g/CO2...

I could accept that argument if the PD140 was more expensive than the 140CR, but it's not (well, in the Passat, anyway). They've just quietly replaced the PD engine with the CR one.

I guess it's another case of Skoda getting some of the new technology, but not all of it.

Bagpuss.

I'm glad the new Superb does not have that electronic handbrake seen on other VAG cars, my experience in a Passat - without the hill hold function proved a pain, and that stupid key didnt give me much faith in being able to live with the car.

One thing I did wonder, about the new Superb though, when I saw the one at the dealer, why is there no door lock on the drivers door? or is it hidden?

Doesn't need one.

Who in their right mind would want to nick it :D

i prefer the normal handbreak, if the road is wet and my car slip, i can control and save my car!!!
