Quick Oil Question - vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Quick newbie question...

Should I only check my engine oil when the engine is warm?

What engine oil should I be using in a Fabia vRS? I've been recommended Castrol TXT 505 01....is this OK in a diesel engine.

Pardon the ignorance.

Cheers!

505.01 stuff is fine. That specific one came with my new vrs.

You can check engine oil when engine is hot. To get the corerect level however turn your engine off and leave for 10 or so mins so that all oil goes into sump.

Best check oil say in the morning before your journey, you know you have a true reading then, and also check on a level surface

I agree!

Yes, 505.01 spec is fine, as this oil has to deal with a lot more than normal oil as the injectors are pressed down by the cam so higher pressures to deal with.

Mine came with Castrol oil, but a different dealer gave me Shell 505.01 as a top up, so I use that.

As others say, leave it until cold or wait a good half hour so the oil can return to the sump.

The vRS will use oil, so don't worry if you see it going down over time, mine uses about 1 litre per 10,000 miles, has done since new.
