Chipping my 4x4

Featured Replies

I think I might have to give up!!!

Fitted an ebay chip it went ok was getting about 50 miles extra on a tank, for the reasons in the forum decided to change it out.

Tried a Dragon chip - really noticable difference but found 2nd gear no power and at 70mph the engine was hunting also a lot more smoke.

Currently testing out a DPT chip.

1st test drive no difference in power on wire 4.

Changed to wire 3 with a very slight difference in power but not noticeable enough I was expecting a clear difference.

All I wanted was a little bit more power and fuel economy like they all advertise.

Has anybody chipped a 4x4 if so what did you use what would I expect in power and fuel economy?

Thank you in advance

You should be able to get some decent gains however you are taking the half measure approach. A remap is the preferable option.

I was going down this path as it was my intension to move over to a VRS at some stage taking the chip across to it. The car is still under warantee and the nearest was Jabbasport in Glasgow.

Boxes are a con. Spend the money on a remap and do it right. :) Speaking from experience here. :)

Perhaps you need to look harder ;)

Would a remap help mine, I am struggling to get over 420 miles per tank or 48 liters before the fuel warning light comes on as the needle touches the red bit on the gauge, it is a taxi and does mainly town work

The only times I get close to or over 500 miles is doing long runs

Look harder Mmmmm.

My next plan was Bluefin, could this be a solution. or is remap my only way forward?

Bhud, I doubt very much if a tuning box would be interchangable between a a 4x4 and a vRS so would be false economy.

As suggested, try a Bluefin from Superchips (there is a dealer in Fife near me, is that closer?) or try Star Performance in Fife. Having said that, there is likely to be something in Aberdeen or Dundee also.

Try the superchips and Revo home pages and do a dealer search.

Thanks,

Bluefin is looking likely after all the reading I have done. Star proformance will also be contacted I will be chasing it tomorrow. Thanks Steve.

Has anybody used a Bluefin on a 4x4?

blue fin is still a remap and won't be transferable. but it will be better than a tuning box :)

The Bluefin is an option but a quick google revealed a couple of places that do remaps not too far from Aberdeen. Bluefin would probably be my choice in your case.

As I just wrote, if you consider bluefin and not a more tailored custom remap, you might also consider chippeduk, IMHO.

Thanks folks,

Reading up on Blue fin it can be reprogrammed (at a cost ) for another vehicle therefore it must be a considered option.

My concern is going for a remap and being disappointed with the result.

Bit skint to buy a VRS at the moment cause that would be the solution.

Superchips have a 7 day policy at the moment I think.

Hi,

same as for chippeduk ST3 (no, I'm not a sponsor nor a shareholder of chippeduk :)

Hi

Mine was a 100PD Fabia

Until remap time , now 141bhp and I return 60MPG easy

I had it custom mapped for economy and it is superb

Not only do I get extra BHP , but extra fuel economy too

Its great!!!!! best of both worlds ;)

Do you need to change down as much in the town or can you keep it in higher gears???

Most of the time I'm doing 30 or less and try to keep in 4rth or 5th but it struggles sometimes

Mmm

No I do change down to 3rd if doing 30

35ish can be in 4th

It is a slightly different with the codings , but if you want to have a go in my car at all , if your not too far , your quite welcome to have a try , just give me pre warning and I can make sure I come to work in it

Hi sarah,

Which map did you use?

Hi Sarah,

Who did your remap?

It is a custom remap from here , Awesome

We do them at £375 + VAT and at the end you get a printout on the rolling road

I will see if I can get it scanned for you

Sarah

As a comparison on the 100PD remap the graph below is from a 100PD running stage 1 P-Torque software

144bhp and 240lbs/ft

Bora100PDcopy.jpg

£265.00 all in for members, or £295.00 all in with before/after dyno runs ;)
