Does anyone use a shared mobile tariff?

Featured Replies

I was wondering if it would be any cheaper/better value for my wife and I to have 2 numbers on the same account and share minutes - a bit like a business account.

Something like 600mins + U/L texts and data for £35 p.m. plus 'admin' would be far better than 2 x £20 with 200mins + U/L texts. What sort of monthly charge would there be for the extra line on the account?

I'll will be approaching Vodafone first as I've 9 mths contract left but swmbo is out of contract on Orange. My current contract is 125 mins + 50% extra to Voda (i think) + stop the clock + 250 texts for £20 although I'm now having to pay £7.50 for U/L data :(

Open to other networks although my buyout figure is £135.

All advice good/bad appreciated

My local Orange shop are doing 500 Free X cross network minutes, 100 texts and free unlimited landlines calls to numbers starting 01/02 for £18 per month X2 = £36...............Bargain

Have you looked on the 3 website? They are doing some good deals, i get 300 three to three minutes and 300 minutes/texts, 90 video calling minutes and unlimited internet and email for £29 with the phone i got.

This plan is £15 a month but depending on what phone and which add on's you want it can be more. There are some free phones though so you could have two of this tariff for £30

That's the sort of thing  Anyone done it? Did it work for you?

But I'd prefer a Vodafone option and swmbo will baulk at staying on Orange as they ****ed her off once too many times.

I know 3 always looks like the best deal but I'm still unsure of their historic network issues. I guess Manchester will be ok but I'm often in the wild in West Cumbria and need good coverage. Plus there's the buying out my contract issue as I'm trying to save money after all.

I have just found this

3 Store - Mobile Phones from Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and LG

Its a tariff for £12 a month, only 100 texts/minutes but you still get the 300 3-3 minutes.

TBH i used to be with three then i went to orange and now i have gone back to three. Its ok most of the time, they also seem to have a little bit better selection of phones than when i was last with them. TBh i found 3 customer services to be better than orange too.

I remember when the promised Orange to Orange would always be free. Meh those were the days.

ATM Tmobile cant be beaten for value. Their flext 35 package is currently on £20 if done online, but time's running out for it.

SWMBO's on it, and since moving from orange (bills were over £60/month) her bill is now £30ish tops! I'll most likely move there myself in the next few weeks.

Unless you send over 200 texts/month, then dont buy into the u/l text hype. You'll pay over the odds for the tarrif.

I think the combi would be better for us as I'd like to keep a data/internet allowance for when I'm away. Would we be able to share a plan anyway?

TBH the flex web deal, then add on the data and you're talking less than £35. I see they've upped the spend included to £200 inclusive (use this any way on texts, MMS, calls).

The combi starts at £40, and doesnt give much more benifit than Orange's alternatives. Unless you're gonna use every minute, and text every few minutes, really isnt worth it IMO.

All networks have share options, normally with the 2nd handset paying between £10 and £15. All do them, but few advertise it openly ;)

The other thing is that I need to find a mobile shop daft enough to pay me off for my contract. Wonder if Slime4U are still doing that freely.

What phone do you have?

If anything decent, sell to the likes of Envirophone (sp?) to pay off the contract, then start afresh. I'll be selling my N95 this way, as I'll get as much as ebay without the hassle of unlocking, listing and dealing with scammers.

Just checked SWMBOs online tmob account, and has option to add another phone to her account, but doesnt explain how or prices. You might need to do such a deal in a store which ever network you choose.

Saw that when you mentioned envirofone.

FWIW, swmbo is abroad at the moment so I can't actually do a deal for another week or two till she's back and gets a PAC.

sinister says dont do it with orange as it ends up more expensive and they cannot sort out the bills right.

My dad and step mom where on a shared plan, but with battling tarriffs nowadays, orange have moved them over to single plans with best plan. Works out alot cheaper for them.

But at the time, the shared plan worked well for them.

Orange is currently bottom of the pile anyway - cheese-eating, surrender monkey, ****tards.

o2 are pretty good on these sort of deals, but worth phoning up 02 sales direct and then going into a shop and seeing what they can do.

So ..........................it won't be orange then :sofahide:

LOL, Orange seriously lost the plot when some French dude thought these dire animal named tarrifs were a good idea. It's let Tmob nail them and steal loads of their loyal customer base.

SWMBO's one, and looks like I'll be another to leave them after 10 loyal years. Like Martin Lewis says, loyalty is for mugs.

bloody wimmin.

after all this talk about not ****ing on orange if they were on fire she changed her mind

Samsung Soul + 400mins + UL texts for £15 p.m.

In the right catchment area they're doing free (upto) 8meg broadband on any contract at the mo too...

Done that for a while. Something like 10gb cap, or pay £5 and get unlimited (80gb fair usage crap)

It's what I'm on, although when my mob contract dies, I've still got 2 months left on the net package, so wondering what's going to happen.

The free broadband used to be 2meg and on 18 months contracts of at least £30 quid a month which is when I joined it about 2 years ago. I assumed it went away for a bit while they did all the deals inc home line rental aswell - but I noticed this 8meg version a few weeeks ago.

I've rang them in the past when I was thinking of jumping ship to o2 or lowering my contract cost... and from what I experienced with customer services the broadband dept probably wouldn't even notice your contract being up!

According to the Orange info this 'free' broadband is actually £8 on top of your contract if you don't fall in the right area or £10 on its own without the contract. Although I'm not sure if that is affected by the catchment area!

FWIW we've already got Orange BB but on a seperate arrangement in my name. My next target is to bring my BB and mobile contracts together.
