No but there are windings somewhere in the hub and a cable back to charge the system. Each hub acting as a mini alternators from what I remember being told.

It's the same as the Prius does only theirs are designed to be used as motors as well as alternators. Essentially the same thing anyway, it's just that BMW don't provide drive from them.
