Erratic idle

Featured Replies

Well I picked my car up yesterday evening after they fixed the horn.

Driving into work today as I am slowing down for traffic it feels like the car is trying to accelerate, so I press the clutch in and the rev counter is hunting between 1500 and 2000 rpm. When I come to a stop then eventually the car settles to a 1200 rpm idle.

Rang Skoda assist and they had someone out within an hour or so.

Lots of fiddling around, plugged in his 5051 box, no fault codes.

He thinks it is the throttle valve position which has somehow become gunged up and so is sticking open. Hopefully we shall see as I am back to the dealers tomorrow for them to take a look. I will be picking up their 1.8TSI Sport again and going down to their Superb launch.

My mk1 octy used to idle high occasionally due to a dodgy coolant temp sensor but it only did it for 30 seconds or so at a time. Also it only showed an error code occasionally as it has to show a completely stupid value before an error is logged.

Mine very rarely sticks too. It will sit at 1800RPM until you nudge the throttle then it will settle back down again.

I will see what VCDS says tonight and then what the dealer says tomorrow.;)

Fingers crossed.

I think you just like the TSI better. Just kidding, probably the car sitting still collected some debree that hardened in the wrong place.

Took it in this morning and it became clear along the way that the problem had gone. He plugged their 5051 in and it said that basic settings needed to be done which he did.

He then said they have replaced a few of these units and if it happens again to call them and they will order the part and have me in to get it changed.

So back to normal for the time being.
