Holset turbo on a vRS?!

Featured Replies

I never thought I'd see it, but apparently people are doing it in Golfs!

VWvortex Forums: anyone else running a holset hx35? (Photos lower down in the thread)

Has anyone ever considered putting an HX35 on a vRS? From the link above, the 1.8T can obviously do it.

Turbo lag could be a small issue, but I guess who cares about driveability when your pushing 600bhp in a front wheel drive car!!

If nobody has done it yet, can someone please do it soon! Get rid of that Garrett or KKK tat and get a proper mans turbo on there!!

Designed in England too......

hmmmmmmm i like that!!!!

i need new :pants: now.

25psi by 4600rpm........ sweet zombie jesus!

what sort of pressure can the standard internals on the 1.8t take? not the turbo the actual block.

That's a lot of boost

what cost would you be looking at to do this?

Mmmm might pick up a 4x4 octi and get this done. Would make a great weekend sleeper. Imagine the look on Mr Porsche face when he gets spanked by a Octi

that sounds a gr8 idea. 4x4 would be better for traction.

Well 2WD with 600bhp would just be crazy. How could u drive it, would be a pig

expect lots of bills if your thinking about this on a 4x4, a lot needs upgrading.

I'm sure that when that big turbo spools up for the first time, you'll grinning so much that you wont care!

Painful levels of boost can only be a good thing!

A bit of an update on this old thread!

After reading this months Performance VW mag, I've discovered a company called GS-Racing, who are offering Holset hybrid turbos to the aftermarket.

GSRacing - Products

I think an HX27 would be a sensible upgrade for the 1.8T. If my turbo dies, or I have some cash to spare, I think I know what I'm doing now!

*adds to wishlist*

I knew it lol

its the place in huddersfield along from the ford n skoda place, sure it is?

sounds cheap for a new turbo?

Yup, Holset (Cummins Turbo Technologies) is based in Huddersfield on St. Andrews road. So you've probably driven past a few times Billy!

I'm not sure what GS Racing change to make them hybrid, I presume it's the turbine end. The bearing housing and compressor end are obviously original Holset parts, but not sure about the rest.

£450 seems a bargain. Plus it's got decent bearings, none of this ball bearing nonsense!

Anyone know what type of flange the standard manifold has?

They must be good.........They have a picture of Ming on their website:rofl::rofl::rofl:

yea I have. Lots of times lol

soon as I got the car I wanted to see if they made a cer turbo but only found lorry ones. was bout 3 year ago i last looked lol.

Now I know they do lol.

does it need to be the hybred one or do you think it will be good straight from them in huddersfield?

will be interestin to see this,

CTT are an OE supplier so they won't sell direct to you (just the big boys I'm afraid!). However the Aftermarket division next door may be willing to sort you out.

You'll need to find some engine flow data for the AUQ, so they can match up the correct turbine and compressor. HX35 just refers to the frame size, there will hundreds of variants within that framesize.
