I've traded mine in for ................

another Octavia !!

I traded the Roomster2 1.9 TDi in at the weekend, after owning it for just over 10 months (a long time for me:D). It covered just under 10K miles in that time, at an average of around 45 mpg (75% urban). The car served it's purpose well, but I never totally got on with it. This probably related at least in part to the 2 Octy vRS's which preceded it! The things which irritated me most about the Roomster were the noisey engine, flat drivers seat (no lumbar support !), road noise, myriad cabin rattles (dash and door cards) and astonishing depreciation. Other than that it drove OK and gave my 2 kids a great view out of the supersized rear windows. I wont miss it though.

I had it "Revo'd" by my local Skoda main dealer and can whole heartedly recommend it to anyone with a 1.9 TDi. It transformed the car and made it much more pleasant to drive, with no obvious downside in terms of fuel economy. I will certainly consider another Revo remap for the new car.

Anyway I've gone back to petrol  I went for a 2008 Octavia 1.8 TSi Ambiente hatchback in black magic. The new 1.8 engine is a gem, with bags of low down power and tremendous acceleration right up to 6500 rpm. It was a bit of a shock when I filled it up and saw the predicted range on the trip computer reading 380 miles (as opposed to 550 miles in the Roomy), although this differential is offset somewhat by the difference in fuel cost locally (£1.06 vs £1.19).

I'll post back with more thoughts on the Octavia (in the appopriate area) once I've driven it a few more miles.

bye for now

Following the demise of the Roomster I now have a rubber boot mat which is surplus to requirements.

It is Skoda part number DCD770002 and is free to anyone who wants it.
