TDI glow plug light stays on

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Recently the glow plug indicator has begun refusing to go out after switching the ignition on. This only happens when the engine's warm and then not all the time. Then when the engine starts it revs high (2000 rpm+) for a couple of seconds before settling down. This never happens when the car's been left overnight. Any ideas anyone?

Thanks, Bill

Check the brake light switch to start

Does the temp guage work correctly?

Also may be worth getting a VAG COM check just in case it is MAF related too

I just had the car MOT'd this afternoon. They plugged their diagnostic kit in and found that the memory had no faults stored. I guess that a dodgy brake light switch would show up either as a fault or in the car's memory?

The garage couldn't account for the symptom - but it was 17:10 and they were no doubt keen to start their weekend.

If the glow plug light is staying on there is a fault somewhere.

I had the same problem and it was one of the injector which has all the electronics on, and i had to have that replaced. The car use to misfire occacionally while i was driving.

That would be injector number 3 that has the needle lift sensor on it.

Thanks all for your help. I'll get the injector checked out.
