Thinking of buying a Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

im just wondering what are the common problems with them, and what to look for when viewing them ?

ive considered a BMW compact but they seem to suffer turbo failures, and the inlet manifold has flaps inside which come loose and get swallowed by the engine, also considered a Golf GT TDi but dont know much about those yet

looking at the Auto Trader i can pick one up for about £5k with 50-60k on the clock, what kind of mileage will they go to ?

i currently own a Mk1 Clio 1.8 16v, and in fact ive only ever owned Mk1 Clios lol

doesnt look like many faults with them at all, a gasket which is easy to do yourself, some bushes maybe and rear window seals ?

what about the turbos on them, how long do they usually last ?

Don't think about it just do it:thumbup:

lol, reliability is a big thing to me and i like to know EVERYTHING about something before i commit any money to it :)

i dont mind common faults, as long as i know what they are so i can replace things before they go or keep my eye on them, like with the BMW im considering, id have to spend a few hundred as soon as i bought one on a new manifold, which bumps up what im spending, the Fabia is looking like quite a good buy at the moment but so far ive done very little digging around for info

A BMW Compact is a car for someone who can't afford a proper BMW - buy the Fabia dude, you won't be disappointed.

Hello mate I have just bought a Fabia VRS 04 with 59k, I have had loads of cars, prob about 20 now and im only 26 lol, but anyway Ive had Civic type-r's, Cupra-r, Scooby, Audi, the list goes on.

Im am very very impressed with it, its been superchipped and had the bigger brakes fitted, its goes like stink, yer ok its has little niggles here and there, but its not a 60k audi so you will accecpt the bits, its does the job I bought it for, to save me money, looks ok, and really does shift, get one mate I doubt you will be dissapointed, get a remap or superchip tho,

cheers ian

Get One! I bought one 2 weeks ago and It still makes me smile everytime I turn the key (let-alone, drive it)... And I went from a Fabia to a Fabia!

Just do you will not be disappointed

thats me :o

My Last Fabia was glitchy... but the worse thing was a PAS pump that packed up, but that's not common and my bumper had been re-sprayed at some point so was prob linked to that.

The worse thing's I have notcied coming up the most on here are rear door seals that leak a bit on some cars in some situations. My last one never did this and I had it for two years and it was a 2001 plate... and the bushes can be a little weak if drivien hard allot or if you don't slow down enougth for speed bumps.. but (I've read) the Seat Ibiza Cupra R had up rated ones that are a straight swap so, if you do break them, you can OEM up-rate them....

Apart from that, same faults as any other car.. it's all pot luck at the end of the day (that's why I bought another fabia..)

i need to know lol, what are they like ?

The turbos are ok with the standard map. If the car is remapped and driven hard, then the turbo may blow.

  • Author

what brand is the factory fit turbo ?

  • Author

hmmmm..........

Any turbo can blow.

It's how you treat them.

redline the engine when its cold and turn it straight off after a long drive is asking for turbo damage

yea ive had a 5 GT Turbo before, i used to run that on Silkolene Pro S which is £50 for 5L, and id change it every 3k miles, i look after my cars, i work in parts at my local Renault dealers

i must say aswell by the way, you have a pretty good community on here, when i was looking at the BMW's i couldnt really find a good owners club forum, but their are lots of helpful people on here and its reasonably busy too so quite a few replies

That's what the forums are for glad you are liking it am sure everybody will appreciate your last comments
