Alarm recommendations please.

Featured Replies

If you want to show off to your friends, get a Clifford.

If you want an alarm which actually works, and continues to work for a long time, then I would go with a Toad.

100% agreed

Iv had 2 cliffords one of which was the avantguard 5 that was the best clifford did untill 5.1 came out !!

both of them were nothing but problems especially the avantguard 5 which was possibly down to it having every extra as standard ! although they were fitted by the pro's which certainly wasnt cheap they were constantly going tits up  (the proximity sensor didnt like the rain, even on its lowest setting):mad::mad:

on the other hand I had a toad ai606 on one of my cars for more than a year untill I crashed it and I didnt have one single problem with it, it was very reliable and never false alarmed, I would highly recommend it

I was actually looking to get one fitted to the vrs untill I relised how loud the standard alarm was lol

Your first thought of an Ai606 is spot on IMO. I had one fitted to my MK3 Golf with remote total closure and headlamp activation for £320. The fitting was done at an approved Toad dealer and was carried out to a very high standard. I saved £100 on insurance by having it and was able to look cool at the same time :)

Cliffords are for Max Power readers IMHO. All that "get away from me" beepy nonsense does my head in.

It's only meant to happen when someone sticks their face right up against the glass :) as they're then obviously looking to see what's worth nicking. Hopefully something to disturb the clueless chav after a quick £20 to move onto the next car . Could be worse with those systems that speak to people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTDDlWtnvSE

Besides, Toad offer their own branded optional dual-zone proximity sensor as an option, which with the Ai606 offers warn away functionality to do exactly the same "beepy nonsense" if you so wish :)

If it worked like that, so be it. But in my experience, they go off all the time - in the wind, and sometimes for no apparent reason.

I had a Sigma M30 on my old octy vRS, with remote and total closure. Never had any issues with it, and was still working fine when my brother sold the car at 5 years old, the alarm was fitted shortly after buying it.

I have also heard about unreliable clifford alarms from a work colleague who was left stuck after the immobilser failed and couldnt start the car.

I'm not getting it supercharged!!

M3 Evos are overpriced imho. The 328 is like 80% of the car for 50% the cost

50% more doors too Tom

Sorry I have no alarm input. My last one was a Moss alarm, and unsurprisingly it was ****e :)

Once on our focus doesn't. If you get your face in about a few inches of the car then maybe, but it's never had a false alarm yet.

IIRC that was a fragile pick up loom on the car side of the alarm, which could easily break and so wouldn't be able to see that the key was really there. That was down a good few generations ago and was fixed for the G4 and G5 alarms from what I know.
