I think I may be paranoid.. Does anyone else who owns a tfsi vrs experience a slight juddering as the clutch bites when moving off in first gear? Every other aspect of gear changes fine, but if creeping forwrd in a traffic jam then I get a shudder as the clutch bites (doesnt matter if engine warm or cold). I can t be arsed looking liek an idiot at the dealers if this is normal , any help?

Nope, no problem here.

the only time I have problems with clutches is if they have been driven hard, or have been slipped more than necessary in first and reverse when taking up drive, they tend to shudder on take off, I am not suggesting you have been abusing it. :-)

I have this same problem, but also a noise that dissappears with the clutch pressed, like a clutch release bearing starting to go... I'm having mine checked out at the next service. I will also be driving my mothers vRS to see if thats the same at some point...

Makes 1st tricky to pull away and the 1st to 2nd gear change notchy.

My car has only done 18k.

Only if I let the revs drop too low (I have a steepish hill after I get out of my driveway). Even then it is more an unpleasant noise rather than an actual vibration you can feel.

Yeah - i agree with Gregoz on this - only if revs are a bit low, on an incline in first gear - i know the juddery rattle that's suggested. Not overly worried about it! Should i be?

Yeah I get the juddery rattle too with low revs, but I was talking more about the action of the clutch. The pedal is very smooth throughout it's movement, the but the clutch seems to start to come in, then suddenly bites?

My questions would be;

1) do these have a hydraulic clutch?

2) If it does, do they have a 'nanny state' release valve like my M3 and other BM's I had, to stop mashing the transmission on fast starts?

3) could there be a problem?an air bubble perhaps?

yes i have but i know its the DMF which will be done soon under warranty.IIRC the petrol models don,t have these.

OK answered one of my questions;

The Octavia is fitted with a five or six-speed fully synchronised, manual gearbox as standard. The connection between the gearbox and the gear lever is via two gearshift cables, which make it easy to position the gear lever smoothly and precisely with short movements and reduce the transmission of vibrations from the engine. The clutch is a dry, single-disc, with hydraulic control.

Most likely the DMF. The failing DMF in the Astra gives me similar symptoms. 38k on the clock, 15k of those heavy remapped. ;)

DMF problems are almost exclusively for carcinogenic diesels though.

I have a judder on pulling away at times and was told it was fairly normal :confused:

Think i'll get a mechanic friend to look at it just before the warranty runs out - and ignore it other than that :cool:

I've always felt a slight juddery feel in 1st-2nd range with the vRS. No rattle or anything... just a slight judder as it takes up drive. Was never sure if it was summat to do with just hitting turbo spool rpms then dropping back out when going up a gear.... don't like to rev too high in 1st on 'normal' driving so as to keep it in the 'zone' and stop it dropping back out of turbo-on rpms, so maybe this is cause? :confused:

Done it since I got the car with 9k miles, now at ~29k.... hasn't got any worse. I think (hope) it's just the way they are made/designed. It often makes me wonder if it's my driving skills that suck but then I just remember how silky smooth my CTR was and know it must be the car and not me... well I hope so at any rate.

I find it isn't quite as pronounced with the ESP/traction control off which is my modus operandi anyways :thumbup:

Well its reassuring to know that its not just mine! I would say you guys have described it perfectly, slightly too low on the revs then slight judder as the clutch bites, slightly more revs no judder.

Yeah exactly... though I'm kinda thinking it a 'nanny state' clutch release control valve, that controls the way the clutch is released...

They used to remove this and fit a braided clutch line to solve the problem on BM's...

Will quiz the dealership/mechanics when I take it in for a service...

Nothing to report here, clutch is as smooth as anything (06 VRS with 22k on the clock)

doesn't have to be tfsi vrs. mine previous mpi 1.6 had the same problem being almost new at 20K km. dealer had no explanation and the best way to get rid of it was switching to tfsi vrs :rofl:

Something similar on mine (2.0fsi). Low revs when moving off slowly produce what I can only describe as a dull thumping sound. Have mentioned it twice to the local dealers (unfortunately, DM Keith) when it's been in for servicing, only to be told they can find/hear nothing... It's not a noticable phenomena when rapidly letting the clutch out - to get into a stream of traffic, for example - so I can only assume that this is how they always drive their customer's cars...

I'll probably pursue it with renewed vigour when the car nears the end of its warranty...

The noise/vibration most of you are talking about is common on vehicles with dual mass flywheels. Both my petrol vRS and Golf GTI do it, as did my previous Subaru (also with DMF).

I got the flywheel replaced under warranty on the golf, but the fix only lasted about 200km before it was back to it's old tricks. The dealership changed their tune when I took it back again, saying it was a characteristic and not a cause for concern. Both of my cars have made the noise practically from new (about 500km on the clock).
