How long ahead of service does 'INSP' appear on the dash?

Featured Replies

How long ahead of your first service did you get 'INSP' come up on the dash?

I'm 99.9% sure I have variable servicing, the car was a Sep 07 and it's been indicating 1st service due at 9.5k since we had it 6 months ago (was a low mileage demonstrator).

At 6.5k miles, just over 1 year old it's started saying INSP.

With 3k to go this seems quite early. There isn't any '1 year or as indicated' in the variable serving regime is there?

TIA

Rich

Insp, says to me that the car is NOT on variable service. Variable service usually just says "Service".

On FIXED servicing, the first service will be an "INSP"ection one, with oil/filter change and the second one will be the "Service" one.

The first "INSP" service is due at 10K or 1 year whichever occurs first, so you are overdue and putting your warranty at great risk.

Does the Roomster run variable?

They are after I left so I dont know but I thought it would be the same as the Fabia and only run fixed.

Main local main dealer told me the Roomster did not have the required sensors for variable servicing when I enquired if my old 1.9 TDi 2 could be changed over to variable from fixed. I enquired as I had a cheap and plentiful supply of 507 spec oil (cost-co special offer).

WHen I bought mine, the salesman was adamant that it's FIXED intervals for all Roomsters. Mine started showing IMSP at 9,500 miles.

Thought as much.

Right, i've been in the boot of the Roomster and it says QG0.

The manual says of QG0 (or QG2)

- engine oil change @1 year or 15,000km (9,375miles) which ever comes first

- inspection service @2 years or 30,000km (18,750miles) which ever comes first

So, why at 1 year is it saying 'INSP'. Shouldn't it be saying 'OIL'

Assuming 10k/annum, should the servicing pattern be approx:

10k - oil

20k - insp

30k - oil

40k - insp

Or is it?

10k - insp

20k - oil

30k - insp

40k - oil

/me very confused

Rich

I would proably do an oil change every 5k, but im no mechanic, just my personal preference.

It's fixed and it will come on 2800 miles from due

It's every 10k as mentioned. Changing your oil every 5k would be nice but is not required. An inspection needs to be done every year or 20k minimum whichever is first

Having read the service manual umpteen times i'm convinced it's supposed to be 10k - oil, 20k - insp, 30k - oil. Assuming 10k per annum.

Logic says that if I had a VAG on QG1 variable service; it could go two years between being seen by the dealer according to the service manual. So, other than a 10k oil change on QG0/2 regimes, there can't be any need for the dealer to do anything else significant before the 2 year mark.

Skoda's own FAQ on their UK website is badly written, and appears to suggest 10k insp. Two dealers I spoke to couldn't agree on what was correct despite reading the service manual wording.

Then, I happened upon this other another ongoing thread:

http://briskoda.net/fabia-ii/new-fabia-1-4-tdi-first-service/116108/2/

I spoke to the Skoda press office this morning. They have, as Robert Kenny points out, apologized for the over-charging. They say that they are sending a notice out to all their dealers immediately to remind them that a lubrication service is only needed at 10,000 miles and not a full service. I have asked Skoda to clarify what Fabia owners should do if they have been overcharged for the first 10k service and the dealer refuses to budge (see Radfordin's post above). Will update hopefully later today or on Monday.

Looks like I am reading the service manual correctly...

Cheers,

Rich

You do not have to wait until the 'insp' or 'service' light comes on, as you can check in advance when your next service/inspection is due by doing the following;-

1. Run the engine

2. Switch off the ignition one 'click' only (not two clicks to where you would remove the key).

3. Press and hold the trip meter button until the display changes from the 'mileage' usually shown.

4. The display will then show the miles due to the next service/inspection for a few seconds, then show the days to go, and then revert to total miles.

I have done this today on SWMBO's Roomster which is two months and 750 miles 'old'; the display showed 8,700 (miles) and 316 (days).

Car booked in Rivervale in Brighton - Mercedes/Mazda dealer, and Skoda authorised repairer/warranty center. They said straight away it was just lube service for 10k/1 year. No DPF on the 1.9, so Mobil VW505.1 went in it.

Dropped off at 8:30, back with me by lunch time. Came up cheaper than quoted at £100.69. Happy with that given the price of labour, and the comparative cost of servicing Seat, Honda or Peugeot down here.

Did all the bits I asked for, including not washing it :-) Didn't scratch it, and didn't mark the interior. Thoroughly recommended.

i think mines on variable servicing as my car is now on 14500 miles and no insp light

Not if you have a Roomster. They don't come with variable.
