Door electrics fault

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and may know what's going on.

The central locking has stopped opening the drivers door from the key fob, leaving me to open it manually (which still works all the locks). The fob still works all the other doors. The fault came intermitently for a day or two and is now perminant. At the same time the electrics in the drivers wing mirror stopped working and the buzzer for lights left on also.

The garage didnt really listen when I explained and tried changing the door servo with no luck.

Is this a common fault at all? On an older car I would have said dodgy earth, but I'm told they don't work the same.

Help?!

Kindest regards

Mark

The control for the door lock, mirror, window, etc are all part of the window motor controller. The electronics do tend to get fried. If you were to undo the metal clip and 6 plastic catches that hold the two parts together, you would probably find that part of the circuit will have burnt out.

Other possibilities are the wiring loom and convenience controller.

Sounds like the all to common central convenience module in the drivers door. Try searching: "central convenience". If it's not too far gone, something like a shot of WD40 will help. If the pins in the control module/ loom are too badly corroded, then they may need repair/ replacement.

Get the dealer or someone with VAG Com software to scan the car - any fault codes found can be searched on the Ross Tech Wiki site.

Magic! Thanks for your help. If it ever stops raining I shall get out and have a look!

Sounds like the all to common central convenience module in the drivers door.

I thought someone (fordfan, may be?) recently said the actual CC unit was mounted in the dash behind the headlight switch and not actually in the door.

Hi

I just stripped the door down, with a knack that my old man who was a mechanic for years would have been proud of and some explitives my mum would not have!

All the wiring looks good, (unlike some of the clips etc. that the garage bodged back on) but I couldnt find a CC Control. Does anyone know where exactly it is so I can have a look?

Kindest regards

Clarkie

It's under the dash. Behind the panel with the light switch.

I would investigate the wiring at the door control unit connector very carefully. Look at the connector and cut the cable tie that holds the wires together and then try gently to pull each wire up. If a wire moves up enough to reveal the seal then it is broken at the connector within the plug. Pay particular attention to the red/yellow wire in the middle row.

I would go with ford fan, have had loads of these will prob need new door harness and poss door control unit.this is caused by not fitting door foils correctly lets in damp to door control unit

Hi

I've taken the fascia off etc so all the boxes behing the lights, under the steering wheel are exposed. Is it the on sat on the metal bracket with two multi plugs going to it? It's a curcuit board inside a black plastic box?
