if you have an xbox with hdmi, then yes the picture will be far better.

One tip for the pz85, turn overscan off when watch a HD source to get proper 1:1 pixel mapping. Leave it on for normal SD to avoid seeing the teletext data on screen.

ot sure on the HDMI on the Xbox, its not an Elite but is only just a year old.

Also when watching a HD source make sure Intelligent Frame Creation is turned off.. Not tested this feature on an SD source since I turned it off so don't know if it has the same effect.

Result ...............

Now spend the next month fannying around with settings :D

When I got my telly I monkey’d about for a while until I did the sensible thing and turned every gizmo setting off. Well not quite everything, I left things like the Cinematic 3/2 pull down on for BluRay stuff

Right you are cheif.

the best thing i've ever had is on my new amp it came with a mic and does self setup, sounds far better than the old amp

then again the amp supports 7.1 or if you only have/want 5.1 like me you can utilize the extra channels to bi-wire the front speakers so thats what i did  add to that the amp is more powerful and simply a better amp the sound difference is amazing :D

but the difference in setups made loads of difference :)

Next question.

My Xbox 360 was connected to the LG via a component lead.

Being as the Panasonic is a propper 1080 HDTV is it possible/worth connecting the Xbox via a HDMI cable???

Apparently the component lead gives you 1080i, so you would need bionic eyes to notice the difference. :)

Indeed the xbox can do 1080i by component, it can however do 1080p via hdmi. There should be little difference, but the latter is a digital connection so should result in a sharper image unlike the analogue component connection. If the 360 is an elite, arcade or pro then it should have hdmi. If its a premium or core then stick with the component lead. Mine is connected via component, only because I dont have hdmi on my console otherwise I would be using that instead.

Dont use the VGA connection into the PZ85, the max resolution the tv can handle via this connection is 1366x768 which will not give 1:1 pixel mapping.

ALL new xbox's have the HDMI connection now.

one thing that confuses me.. being that there is/was a HD-DVD drive available for the eggbox, i thought HDCP was a requirement for those??

edit: silly me! its too early in the morning... think they got round it because component output isnt digital

Which is what Manny just said...:P

Not had your coffee yet? :P

I think you're right Colin, the output was limited to 720p I think. It caused a bit of a hoohar and everybody stamped their feet... I can't remember if it was later resolved with an update enabling 1080i or possibly 1080p over component or if the only way to get a 1080i/p was the hardware upgrade with hdmi out.

Yay yay yay

Very happy indeed. Despite being the same size screen this Panasonic is a lot smaller than the LG, not had a chance to play yet but even as is its impressive. Even fitted the same wall bracket :)

Tres cool. Not bad for £100.

go to the picture settings ross as it might be set at a pikey resolution.

Also try and get it out of dynamic mode (more for shops than home) and into cinema mode for a more natural picture.

Now set at 1080I on the xbox setting.

Where can i find dynamic mode Manny? It asked me when i started it up if it was being used in a shop or home.

It was on normal, now on cinema ;)

Menu, Picture and at the top.

Another thing to do. With the 360 on, and selected as the source, select menu, setup, then scroll down and select "picture overscan" and change this to "off".
