could the members who have replaced their diff bearings let me know the symptoms/noises that were present up to the bearings getting replaced & a idea of the work involved & the cost that you paid for the job to be done. car is a 2004 vrs. many thanks mike.

any ideas guys?:confused: did 400miles this weekend & noise is getting worse.:) ive got a whine from n/s/f around 40 mph & a whine in neutral which goes when clutch pedal is pressed down,car has had new front wheel bearings & a flywheel & clutch in last 4k. thanks mike.

Had mine replaced earlier this year (2004 vrs)- cost for numerous bearings, fifth gear syncro and all labour was about £850.

My symptoms were slightly different - I had more of a knocking/rubbing noise the speed of which increased with road speed and was at its worse on a slight left turn and like you at about 30-40mph. I didn't have a constant drone or whine and it made no difference whether the clutch was engaged or not.

Bearings were definately the problem - noise disappeared completely.
