go here and do this on your phone:

Go to Settings > General > Personalisation > Display > Rotate screen. Set to "automatic".

enjoy!

Mine doesnt have this feature and after my K850i I miss it. Mine is 3 branded SW 21.0.016 :(

Could do with debranding it....if only i knew how :)

Do a search... theres threads showing how to do this

(thread moved to tech-shed)

Cheers for the tip bengie although mine's done this since I first took it out of the box. Maybe some network providers disable it on their handsets?

Be very carefull if you do debrand it!

I de-branded my N95 8GB as it was only F/W v11 when it was new and was slow, unstable and missing some of the features found on non 3 branded handsets.

The debranding worked well, but the features were not much better and it was even more unstable, plus you can't go back to the original F/W so once its done, its permanant. This was a huge problem for me as i couldn't use any of 3's services like Skype, MSN and the TV and music that they offer, so in the end i had to send it off for repair. Luckily for me it was replaced under warranty, and during the time it was away Nokia released a F/W update for that handset anyway, so i got a new handset and better F/W in the end.

Its a big gamble that you might not be impressed with... :thumbdwn:

3 are notorious with sticking their apps on their phones though. theres no much on the other networks that wont work on a unbranded phone. ive done my n95 which was locked to tmobile, i now use it on orange and it doesnt miss a beat, plus ive now got auto rotate which is apple iphone cool ;)

If you use Skype and msn (both totally free on 3) then you will lose it completely and won't be able to download the software from 3 or use it free of charge, and they are both very good applications that are worth keeping if you use them.

Some won't be bothered, others will, i'm just giving my first hand experience to prevent others making the same mistake.

Thanks for the heads up there mate, only its already updating as we speak....

As it happens I dont use skype, and i find the msn mobile a PITA, so as long as the main functions improve, ill be happy :)

Nice tip Bengie, works a treat on my 18 month old N95.

Its all unbranded and up to date now. Cheers Bengie - it's the little things :)

:D

the annoying thing is i spent hours trying to find, download and get signed various bits of software to do this then on one link this guy asked why you don't just use the feature that nokia put there in the latest firmware

why it isn't on by default and why thye haven't mentioned it i don't know

I'm doing the opposite network move, moving away from rip off Orange to cheaper Tmobile.

First thing I did with the N95 8GB - debranded and removed the crappy Vodafone firmware :thumbdwn:

Debranded my last N95 and it was a massive improvement, no problems using it on the Vodafone network either.

No problems for mine so far, apart from i cant use 3 mail or MSN. No great loss.

If you look in the "download" bit.. there is a MSN that can be downloaded :)

What download bit?

That is true, but don't be fooled into thinking it can be used for free as it is signed differently and data charges will apply.

Trust me, i found out the hard way!!

there is a icon buried in one of your menus that is called "download" if you use it and get it to update there should be another folder called winlive or something like that... you can download the msn for the mobile

funny thing is ive tried tmobile twice and both times they messed me about with bills, over charged me and i was paying over 50 pm. now im with orange as my GF is on there too. bills have already fallen to about 40 quid and i still use it in the same manner.

but mobile phones are like insurance providers, they work well for some, and utter crud for others! :)

Well, Orange didnt put up a fight for a 10+ year subscriber, spending a LOT of money every month.

So took out my new contract today with Tmob, and awaiting PAC code.

i bet you don't spend anything like that of an apprentice i worked with a few years ago

Good shout this one - found it by accident earlier

Works well....

Steve

I am finding the feature a bit hit and miss today though; doesn't seem to want to rotate everytime

Oh well still quite handy... when it works!

Steve

It's a bit slow on the N96 too.
