New Superb Greenline on sale Monday 13th October

Featured Replies

I drove a 1.9TDi base German spec Superb and it was absolutely fine, it didn't feel especially underpowered at all until I drove the CR170 but for most applications the 105BHP of the 1.9PD unit offers plenty of torque. The Greenline spec to me sounds like quite a novel idea, and I think we will sell quite a few of them.

Dare I order a white one?

I am looking to to reduce my motoring running costs starting with the purchase price. Although Skoda are not as cheap as they were a few years ago they still offer good value for money.

So starting with the Greenline at £16710 I am reluctant to pay £400 for an extra pot of paint so my first colour choice is Candy White and would consider Pacific Blue once I have seen one. £400 saved on paint gives me £400 to spend on other options!

If you look really really closely, you will notice there is a greenline in the picture :P

My pics from march this year, I'm guessing it doesn't come with those graphics on it?? ;)

If it comes with those three I think I'll have one ;)

Pacific Blue is a really nice non-metallic Blue.

Nice photo of the Czech womens, shame every new Skoda we ordered doesn't come with at least one.

They don't take into account all the CO2 emissions from the recovery truck when it gets disabled by something as complicated as a puncture.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above comment. This is one reason why I was deterrred from choosing a current shape Honda Civic.

On the subject of the Superb Greenline, whilst I applaud Skoda's green intentions, I am unconvinced for the following reasons:-

1) Lowered suspension will give less clearance over the ubiquitous speedhump

2) The lengthened 4th and 5th gears reduce the flexibility of the engine, as well documented in Bluemotion and Ecomotive models with the same 1.9Tdi engine. For instance, having to change down from 5th to 4th on a motorway, then changing back up to 5th again.

3) Lower rolling resistance tyres have less grip.

4) Sunset (ie gangster) glass. No thanks, I like to have good visibility out of all windows.

5) The extra 1.5mph top speed will be academic in this country

6) Ohh, and the aforementioned lack of a spare wheel!

I have thus chosen a Superb 1.9Tdi S with the following spec:-

Brunello Rosso metallic

Cruise Control

Maxidot

Headlight Washers

Floor Mats

3 Spoke Leather Steering Wheel

Bolero CD/Radio

Whilst I appreciate I shall pay £8.00 per month more in company car tax over a Superb Greenline, plus slightly extra in fuel, I believe the S spec car will be more driveable and less of a compromise.

If the greenline is £16,710 OTR, what the OTR price of the most basic 1.9 tdi S-spec?

Do you think its worth the extra over a standard car?

The base spec 'S' with the 1.9Tdi engine is £15,950, however, it does not come with cruise, sunset glass and a leather steering wheel where the combined cost would be £640, or therabouts. Of course, you also get lowered suspension and a tiny boot spoiler.

The Greenline price is therefore nothing remarkable, however, it has cheaper VED and increased economy over the 'S' model.

I drive a company car and today have selected a 1.9Tdi S with £1,560 of options which just falls within my £365 monthly lease allowance. I dismissed a 2.0Tdi as I could have only added metallic and cruise and would have missed a leather steering wheel and CD multichanger, both of which are present on my current Octy II which will be replaced by the Superb.

In addition, my business driving is mainly motorways (M5, M42, M40) and the surrounding urban areas where it is often hard to get up to the speed limit. If I feel the need for speed I can take my Scoob out for a spin!

Greenline in Ireland has more equipment that comfort or 'S' as known in UK, but we pay lower Vehicle Reg Tax (16%) compared to 20% on normal 1.9TDI as in S model...due to difference in CO2 related tax

Maybe the lovely ladies posing by the greenline superb are saying in a round about way go for black or brunello red going by the colour of their dresses....but getting back to the basics, if one compares the greenline superb to the passat equivalent, the price difference alone is a big saving.

And at the end of the day, the cars are for cruising long distances in comfort, unless of course some lucky person orders the beast with 4 wheel drive with a big V6 in it...and even flat out the 1.4 petrol or 105 diesel will be more or less behind it punching out less emissions and getting more miles to the gallon ^_^
