Felicia diagnostic socket?

Featured Replies

Hello, new here!

Tried searching first but found no reference to where the diagnostic socket on a Felicia 1.6 petrol P-reg is. Could anyone please help?

If you know, please reply, even if you have no guess as to the below, Cheers!

I am about to order a diagnostic gadget from ebay as I am fed up with having to pay a huge wad to get it transported to the Skoda garage every time who basically haven't fixed the cause of the intermittent fault. It turns over but won't fire. While trying to start, the ABS (newly repaired), airbag and oil lights come on.

Faults history:

Worked fine for 4 years,

1) A few months ago it would cut out intermittently WHILST DRIVING but start again on the key. I put this down to water in the tank, as it had been standing for a couple of months. Problem cured itself after filling tank.

2) 3 months ago. Would turn over nicely but not start. Garage fixed leaking brake cylinder and reset computer.

3) Yesterday, same problem, turns over, bag and ABS come on at key turn, turns over but won't fire. Warning Lights return to normal when key is left in. (Battery is fully charged).

the diagnostics connection is under the bottom edge of the dashboard on the right hand side in the right hand footwell

Excellent! Thanks for lightning reply!

Now to find out WTF the fault is...

do you know if you are getting a spark at all??

If it's not starting you are wasting money having the computer read IMO

The Felly any engine 1.3, 1.9D even the VW 1.6 is a sturdy engine the only complicated thing the electrics control is the drivers airbag thats the only real thing that needs to get reset if it lights up (and prob ABS if your car has it)

Have you tried cleaning the dizzy cap?

My Dads former 02 Honda had trouble firing up until I WD40'd the dizzy cap and gave it a clean as we noticed sparks coming from the cap and thats why it didnt fire up.

Was OK after the wd40 and quick clean.

Try also sticking in injector cleaner before you fill up with petrol.

Get someone to crank it and you look at the engine bay.

adding extra stuff

i know is a realy dumb question, but i wonder if the carb models also have a diagnostic socket

I doubt it!!! Or they may have the socket but what it can read/do isnt as advanced as a later model.

The Fabia/Octavia which use the later VW chassis will need a Vagcom reading as they have drive by wire throttles and the onboard computer has a lot more functionality.

Felicias and older don't have all that gubbins

Sound like the fault is a dodge crank position sensor. I think looking at my 1.3 and i guess the 1.6 is the same its the hall effect sensor ontop of the gearbox bell housing and picks its signal up from the flywheel, just an idea:)

:) Most likely fault if you have no spark is the hall sensor in the distributor....a very common fault with the 1.6. New distributors are available from Euro Car Parts, about £60 last time I bought one a couple of years ago.

as dave says above, on the 1.6 the hall effect switch is in the back of the dizzy

it's quite common for the o-ring to seep and clag up the sensor with oil... it's also worth checking the fuel pump relay is working too

Thanks for replies so far. It's at the Skoda garage who "fixed" it last time with the same symptoms. It's also having new rear shocks. I'll see what their diagnosis is and if/when it happens again, I'll be able to read the codes myself with the £22 code reader from Ebay. With your suggestions I now have a head start.

I'll post what they say here.

BTW, I think fault code readers should be INCORPORATED into all cars by design, on the dashboards. It would only add a few quid to the price. My code reader will live in the car as part of the standard repair kit.

Can't wait for affordable electric cars, I'm hoping this Felicia will last me until they are available.

Teflon Tom, Daverapid and Captain Sisko: I'll check the diz when the car comes back next week. The fuel pump works because I can hear it.

It's got to be electrical, just a question of which of the newfangled extra bits they put in to go wrong nowdays.

If electric cars aren't available by the time this one goes to the scrapyard in the sky, I'll get two or three Tata Nanos and just allow an extra few minutes to destination.

if the fuel pump is running you can rule out an immobilizer problem

The verdict from the garage is a faulty coil pack which they are replacing with another used one. Not collected the car as is not ready yet (new rear shocks, while it's there).

Rear shocks?

What are the front ones like?

And what info does the 1.6 diag socket give?

Hello, new here!

While trying to start, the ABS (newly repaired), airbag and oil lights come on.

Don't they do that for a moment anyway, even if there isn't a problem?

I thought my P-reg Felicia was too old to have any fany diagnostic socket or suchlike, but I have to warn you that really, i know bugger all about cars so don't take my word for it :o

And what info does the 1.6 diag socket give?
You can scan Addresses 01 (Engine), 15 (Airbags) and 25 (Immobili.
You can scan Addresses 01 (Engine), 15 (Airbags) and 25 (Immobili.

and surely abs too??

and surely abs too??
Mine didn't have ABS so no mention on the scans I did.

I don't think mine has ABS but in the fusebox there's some ABS related stuff.

At least I knoiw the Felicia has a diagnostic socket and what it scans too. Thanks guys :D

I'm learning more about my car all the time!

thats interesting,

What can you do with vag com, on a felly.

You say addresses, engine - Can you remap them, and is it easy?

Also where can i find a vag com gadget?

From what I can tell from this there is definitely no ability to remap on any of the 1.3's. Can't find anything via google either for Magneti-Marelli 1av remapping.

ah but what about the 1.6 AEE

mine has the socket, i need the plug and the software

Briefly tested the code scanner at the garage as the mechanic was quite interested in it. It read the same codes as their more fancy handheld one the only difference being that on my £22 EBAY jobby I had to look up the codes in the accompanying booklet.

If you get one for a Felicia, make sure it's a VW/AUDI one.

It helps as the 1.6 is a VW engine :D

You can see Volkswagen AG on the engine block
