Temperature sensor, Octavia vRS 53 plate question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've a 53 plate vRS 1.8T Octavia, and the engine temperature sensor appears faulty, so that the dash gauge never moves. I am led to believe that the engine management reads from a different part of this sensor and will go into 'limp home' mode if it fails to get readings, so I can only assume my sensor is partly operational as the car is otherwise fine.

My car is due to be getting a small repair in just over a week's time (not a Skoda specialist but a trusted local to whom I am very loyal). I would also like a new sensor fitted but need to know a few things and I'd be very grateful if someone could help me out:

(1) What part I need to be ordering and where to get it?

(2) Whether it's straightforward to fit (maybe point me in the direction of some pics/a description of the technique/faqs etc.)?

This way I can get the garage to get the necessary part and prepare them for how to find and fit it (if it isn't obvious).

Thanks,

John

Go one save a kitten - a search should give you the part number and there is a how to knocking around somewhere, I changed the one on my diesel, it's quite easy to do and the sensor is pretty cheap.

So what sort of thing should I search for (i.e. what's it called?). I've no plans to change it myself - that'll be done at the same time as the repair.

coolant temperature sensor or engine temperature sensor. the revised version is green, this is a common problem.
