Classic car status for furby in the future?

Featured Replies

Was the Golf GTI 2.0 a hot hatch with its amazing 10sec 0-60mph.

I'll stop stirring now. :D

It was marketed as such, yes. But the original Mk1 was only a 100bhp 1.6, so I imagine that wasn't greased lightning either...

Good point.

I can see CJ's point. Their might have been others before the Fabia (306 D-Turbo) but the Fabia is aimed more at being a hot hatch ("warm" compared to a 182) and not just a sporty hatch like the Golf.

Same reason the Fabia was based on the newer version of the Polo platform before the Polo was - to test the technology via a brand which they didn't care about... :D

Oh Rob! You do really talk some :pants: if you don't mind me saying!

VW don't care about Skoda! Then why did they bother investing so much in them then ey,you raging plantpot! ;)

You are just at it again arn't you

ANDY...MARC...Where are you?!!!! :D Oh and all the other Fab owners too!

What's all this got to do with my original question anyway!

Just because a car has "GT" or "GTI" on it doesn't mean it's a "hot hatch". The 2.0l Golf GTI couldn't POSSIBLY be seen as a hot hatch.

The GT stands for "Grand Tourisme" or "Grand Tourer" - implying a car which will be comfortable and easy to drive on long distances - which has NOTHING to do with being a hot hatch.

Hot Hatchedness is a marketing/aim/perception thing. If a car is seen to be quick, desirable to a certain type of demographic, it usually gains the monicker of "hot hatch"...

As such, the Fab vRS could be considered the first hot hatch diesel...except the Ibiza TDI Sport was out first...depends on whether you consider it "hot" or not. It certainly wasn't marketed as such...

Think the new Ibiza FR and Cupra are classed at a hot hatch now.

I'm sure plenty of people with the 2.0l version believe they have a hot hatch!

Rob.

But it wasn't - the Golf GTI TDI PD was out years ago...

And the Citroen ZX Volcane TD was out years before that, and that definitely was marketed as a hot hatch.

I think the Fabia has a good chance of being a classic of sorts, maybe it does not excel in any one area, but has a unique combination of qualities making it a very unique and interesting car IMO.

Because they were investing in highly skilled engineers for very little, and Skoda had been buying VW stuff to build the Favorit and Felicia anyway. So VW have increased their market share with a "budget brand", have a bunch of first-class engineers, and somewhere to test out new developments without damaging the VW reputation.

So in effect it looks like the Fabia vRS was rather late into the DHH game? :D

Rob.

Indeed it was. And some people also mention the 205 XS TD as well (IIRC it was an 80 bhp TD).

 Well i think it is..well ish then! Opinions opinions!

Had A ZX diesel volcane couple of years ago. Sprinted it at Ty Croes once. Not as quick or sharp as the furby. Nice car though. Mrs CJ was mortified when I got shut
