Car Serviced but error made on service histroy book

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

just after some advice really,

had a trust worthy local garage do my service for me on the vRS, no problems on that,

the problem comes down to the fact that their trainee or apprentice has put down a milage in my service book that was wrong, then tipexed it out and wrote in the correct one,

to me i see it every time as i was told about it, but am worried when i come to sell the car it could get brought up,

just dont want it looking suspicious as my local gargae he says he usally see's vag cars with double my mileage on them when they are 4 years old, i only do 500 miles or so a month

how can i fix this, should i leave it, any advice or input appreciated :)

I dont think it really is a problem becus if everything else checks out ok then any prospective buyer is unlikely to be faized by such a mistake. If you are still worried then it may be worth getting your local garage to write a short note explaining how it was them that had ammended the service book and then this note could be included with the service book for peace of mind.

Have you got an invoice for the work with the correct mileage on it?

no but i'm sure i can get one, i paid cash you see

Thats it, whatever in the book is actualy pretty worthless without an invoice to back it up anyhow.

thanks, will get reciept on monday, he's pretty good like that and with it being his mistake, i cant see there being any probs,

just wanted other peoples advice :)

Yes its a bit of a pain when they get it wrong, AFAIK any replacement service booklet would get the usual "DUPLICATE" stamped over it - so that's not a option. My VW main dealer just seems to get my registration wrong - seems if I book the car in with the correct registration number and its picked up wrong (antipideon cheap labour), then when the car is left with the keys in the usual envelope, they can find the car (from the reg number on the envelope) but default to the number they wrote down on the booking diary - as usual they are late with the car and I'm just happy if they have not caused any damage to it and just pay up and "leg" it rushing to get into the "getting busier" rush hour traffic, only to start fizzing when I get home and examine the bill !! Its just a pity that any really local indep VAG specialists have shut down - one used to be next door to this main dealer - surely that was never going to work long term.

I always keep all receipts for service work, because a service book full of stamps can be obtained if you know the right people. The receipts will backup any work carried out on your car and the service book.
