Hi I have owned a 1996 1.3 felicia pickup with 48000 miles on the clock for the last year with a few problems but hey ho.

My latest is that it developed a wining noise in 5th gear, then 4th and now 3rd!!!

My question is, will this be the replace the two nuts on the end of the gearbox job or something more serious?

Don't know about the felicia, but when I had an old Orion that was doing this it ended up with me getting the gearbox reconditioned. It had a lot more miles on than yours though, hopefully something simple.

have you tryed draining all the oil and replacing it with new one? is something you can do at home and might be a simple fix to dirt or moisture or just old oil causing it.

Believe its something to do with retaining nuts for the gears or something... you shouldn't really use it too much in those gears while its doing it and needs sorting asap!

I think thats what it is but can't exactly remember... there's a few other posts on it if you search for 5th gear whine or similar.

Thanks, I have looked throught the old posts the other day but just wondered if this was more serious before I replaced the nuts on the 5th gear with 3rd and 4th being noisey also.

Replace the nuts and give it a whirl first
