Saving filtered Windows event logs. How?

Featured Replies

I'm trying to save a subset of a windows event log. If I do this as a text file, I can easily edit it. But if I save it as the native .evt file, there doesn't seem to be any filtering optios.

You can filter what you see on screen, but if you save, it still exports the entire non-filtered log.

Is there way to do it with the standard event viewer? If not, any 3rd party event log file viewers you can recommend that are free?

A rapid response would be great. I'm deep in it at the moment, and I can't email a 12MB system log file for analysis!

Zip the exported file. It will compress down a great deal.

What's the problem with the windoze box?

MyEventViewer - Alternative to the standard event viewer of Windows

mebbe ?

"MyEventViewer is a simple alternative to the standard event viewer of Windows. As oppose to Windows event viewer, MyEventViewer allows you to watch multiple event logs in one list, as well as the event description and data are displayed in the main window, instead of opening a new one. Also, with MyEventViewer you can easily select multiple event items and then save them to HTML/Text/XML file, or copy them to the clipboard (Ctrl+C) and then paste them into Excel."
