Heater mystery?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know why my heater (Octavia 2003) thinks that turning the temperature up means I want it to blast out on full power? I might have it on 2 bar blower and 20º temp and just want a couple of more ºs but I then have to furiously press the blower down before I lose all my hair .

Similarly, when I first turn it on it always blasts out on full power and I have to wait for the bars to get up to full before I can turn it a back down from a gale to a gentle breeze.

Can I set it to automatically start at a certain blower speed and temp every time or is this just a quirk of the Octavia heater?

Cheers

Mine did this in the summer, if I tried to drop the temperature a couple of degrees it started blowing freezing cold air with the fans at full chat.

I think it's designed to blow out hot or cold air as quick as it can and then when the onboard temperature sensor tells it it's at the right temperature it will drop the fan speed.

Having it set to ECON instead of AUTO helps.

Mine doesn't do most of this except for going to "full icey" when first started or turned down in Summer.

So they've all got their own quirks then. I guess it's not that much hassle to turn it down it's just irritating when you're driving to have to look down and adjust the blower because it's turning your face inside out

Yeah; that cubby being above the heater is my biggest complaint with the Octy.

I either use my car's Climatronic on ECON or, if I want aircon, I select fan speed and desired vents manually. The display indicates blank rather than AUTO and I have full control over what is going on. I never use it on AUTO.

Whereas I only use auto unless I need demist mode.

Same here but it seems to default at full blower power anyway when I first turn it on or if I adjust the heat. I'd like to be able to turn it on or adjust the temperature and have it stay at 2 bars fan speed so I don't have to fiddle around behind the gearstick when I'm driving. Oh well, in a perfect world …

Suppose you can't please all the people all the time, but as my car is fitted with the above said climatronic I leave it selected to auto all the time, set @ 20c.Being able to jump in the car whether hot or cold outside, and after a few mins the inside temp is 20c is a great idea (no constant tweeking heat, fan speed etc) just enjoy driving the car, great stuff.

Yeah I find the climate set to auto at 20'C to be fine. Unless its raining that is, when it seems a bit chilly at 20'C so I put it up to 21'C/22'C.

I usually leave mine on ECON but if you don't want the blast on temperature change then ensure that you have not also selected both the central buttons - air to face and feet - as this will increase the blower to 4 or 5 bars for a short time.
