Rear spoiler paint fade

Featured Replies

HI All,

Just after a bit of help i have a 05 red fabia VRS and the rear spoiler has started to fade :mad:so what can i use to bring back to new or just remove the fade.

Thanks in advance :)

You'll need to cut it with something. T-cut is the obvious type of thing, but... er... it's rubbish. I

f you're applying by hand (and sticking to retail products) try AG Colour Restorer.

Keeping it nice & waxed will help with preventing fade in the future. :)

If it's fading then you could do with a good machine polish, sealant and wax to be honest, T-Cut or anything else won't do the job as well as at Rotary or DA with a sensible polish..........

Thanks guys,

I'm having this problem with my rear spoiler and have been t-cutting it for the last year, every time I cleaned the car.

Mine is effing grey for chrissakes...SRP won't do it then? I don't understand how it got that way - the swirling that's visible bears no relation to anything I've ever done to it.

u can see fading on all the plastic parts of the car. well my yellow one u can :(

I T-cut mine as it faded. very lightly though, no colour appeared on the cloth. bought the shine back.

Nah. SRP's generally used as a "polish" to either fill scratches (it's got a lot of fillers in it) or to remove the scratches caused by something more agressive.

If it were me I'd probably use my AG Fine Abraisive B03, G3 or even standard rubbing compound (caaaaarefully). Alternatively I'd ask Baker for what he would use to cut with - although bear in mind some compounds need a machine, some can only be applied by hand, and some both.

Basically, you need something harsh to cut off the top layer.

A good analagy when correcting paintwork is, er, skincare... look at what the mrs does (honestly! If you saw my skin you'd know I don't do this! :gay: )

1) exfoliate (cuts off the top layer)

2) cleanse (polish - remove the imperfections, repair the "damage" done previously, start to create a "shine"

3) tone (wax - the final finish, making it look nice)

Farecla do an all in one i got a sample of or something like 3M extra fine might also do it for you.

You don't want to go too abrasive (eg T-Cut) on a regular basis or you will have no paint.

A good microfibre applicator to get some cut and once it's all looking red again (or whatever colour) then you can put a couple of coats of sealant (EGP/Gloss guard/Klasse etc) on it and follow that with a couple of layers of wax. Ultimately you will have to keep on top of it and make sure the protection stays topped up to prevent fading again.
