sound deadening

my fabia1 1.2htp does n't have any underbody sound deadening,yet i understand the higher spec fabia3 does,can it be retro fitted,does anyone know how exspensive it would be?

As far as I know the underbody sound deadening is a coating that is put on during the painting stage of the shell. Not sure that it can be retrofitted to a car as you woud probably need to strip eerything off the bottom of the car. Most of the underbody coatings you buy and paint on the bottom are more to do with any corrosion than sound deadening. I had someone come to interview for a job the other day and they worked in a place that developed these underbody sound deadening coatings. He did a presentation on them and it was very interesting. They work like an expanding foam and are designed to be very durable (very specialist development work). It may be possible to fit sound deadening mats within the car and these may help. I know there are companies that do this for a reasonable price (mentioned in the Octavia !! section a couple of times). I believe it involves lifing the carpets and also putting stuff into the doors.

The only "New Fabia" I have seen so far that has anything underneath that differs from the the rest of the range is the "greenline". The "greenline" sports the same plastic covers that all the "pre facelift Fabias" has under the floorpan.

I have been thinking of buying the plastic parts, and fitting them to my car (1,9 TDI sport), but I haven't checked out what the cost would be, and I doubt the sound deadening effect would be that drastic..

Should be no problem fitting the under bonnet insulation, just need to get it order from your local dealer or get lucky and find a rear ended fabia 3 in a scrappy.

I bought and fitted the under bonnet sound deadening, but can´t hear any real differance.

The black cover is especially to protect the bonnet paint from heat, which is generated from engine, rather than sound deadening.

Because the heat of the engine may damage glaze, clear coat etc. of the paint over time.

It also is meant to act as a fire blanket... In case an engine fire broke out the plastic retaining clips melt away, letting the blanket help smother the engine bay area. Idea being to hopefully allow the occupants at least enough time to exit the vehicle!

Yet only recall seeing these fitted to TDI's... So hope there wouldn't be any adverse effects using them on a petrol model? Any thoughts on the differences between a Diesel fire & a Benzine one???

It is originally on it. In Turkey, only 1.2 Roomster don't has it...

This has been discussed at length before. I too have the 3 with this feature and the problem is that the panel is not effective. I have advised that anyone retro fitting should buy panels from a specialiet company and cut them to size. You will find the sound reduced more effectively than the existing panel.

hey the most disgracing thing happened .........

i was stuck in a traffic jam ..... a passer by came and asked me which car i'm driving... and i was all pumped up.....soon as i told her it was the new skoda Fabia .... she looked at me and said kool...nice....but it sounds like a truck
