New edition of 'Evo' magazine

Featured Replies

Just picked this up, and it's a stormer! There's an article where the wirter tracks down 'The Beast' - the 27 litre Rolls Royce Merlin engined nutmobile built by John Dodd - and gets to chance to drive it, a feature about racing a classic Porsche 962, and someone recreating Hunter S Thompson's drive across the desert from 'Fear & Loathing..' but in a modern red shark instead :)

Is that the 100th edition?

It will be my last, cancelled my subscription... it's been going downhill for a while.

Moved to Performance Car instead :)

Dunno if it's the hundredth, but it's marked 10th birthday. It's one of those magazines I pick up every now and then if it looks interesting, and The Beast was one of those semi-mythological cars that I remember reading about in Street Machine when I was at school :)

I've grabbed a couple of issues of Performance Car, but felt that it was a bit light for the price - the photos and standard of writing just feel a bit like Evo, but not as sharp. The only mag I subscribe to is Top Gear, but I occasionally grab Car or Octane if the head feature is good. Car feels a bit hollow sometimes though, after the sad passing of LKJ.

I think that EVO had a big upheaval with some of its long standing editors, Richard Meaden and Jethro Bovingdon, joining an internet only car mag.

I looked at Performance Car but I am confused regarding its relationship to the old magazine of the same name.

The current EVO came from the ashes of the old PC mag, via Fast Lane, and I am wondering if this new PC version is a mag too far.

I'm finding PC very good, a lot better than Evo's been for the last year anyway. And it feels like a better magazine :)

im sticking to top gear..... also have a sub to F1 racing and buy auto express to read at work.....

I also subscribe to Autocar, which is a good read :)

Ive noticed evo slowly moving toward the direction of its own **** but Ive not found anything to replace it yet.

My other favourite mag is Practical Performance Car - its a great mag that dosen't take itself too seriously and covers shoe-string budget performance cars. One of the staff also runs a 27ltr v12 Rover SD1 too.

It is the 10th birthday issue and a very good one, lets hope they keep it up. Car magazine has its moments. PC is not a bad read. Then you've got Retro Cars and such like.

I think it's a shame there no regular Skoda coverage.

Yeah, they had the 100th issue a while back. Think this is issue 120-odd. Great idea I think to have those 'dream drive' articles, really enjoyed them. Also interesting putting in comparisons with 10 years ago.

As a subscriber, I've also noticed a change - shame about ****ie and Jethro moving away to pastures new, as they did bring a lot to the table. But I enjoy reading them over on the other side, so not too bad :)

But for me, it's still the best car mag out there.

Steve
