New Turbo?!

Featured Replies

Afternoon All,

I'm new to this so please excuse my ignorance. My beloved VRs is laid up at Laser Skoda and needs a new turbo. After much complaining I have been offered a reduction of £200 off the original £1400 job. I'm after any feedback from anybody who has experienced or know of anyone who has been down this avenue and is aware of any alternatives. Any VAG specialists that come recomended or anywhere I can get the job done for less?

Many thanks.

Good excuse for a Garrett unit.

Get it fitted with a trust local independent - I might be wrong and feel free to correct me somebody if I'm wrong - but I dont think fitting is a turbo charger is actually THAT big of a job compared to say changing a clutch?

A couple of hours labour?

Am I right or wrong?

No they won't take long to do.

Ive done one on the same set up in an hour or two before.

Whats actually the difference with standard to Garrett?

Two weeks ago I bought a new Garrett turbo from Derv Doctor for £705 inc VAT.The turbo was fitted by DSB Autocare in Nottingham, for £195,and that included a 70,000 mile service and brake fluid change.Total cost £900.As usual Dave+Sara@DSB did a sterling job.The Garrett turbo is a much more substantial item than the KKK turbo Skoda fit as standard. The Garrett is fitted to the PD130 engine when it's in VWs and Audis. If you get a turbo from a Skoda dealer, they will charge you a grand for a KKK.The car performs every bit as well as it did before the turbo broke.I fact,I'm pondering on a mild remap...Here are some numbers you may find useful :-

Derv Doctor 01335 344707

DSB Autocare 0115 977 1004

Best of luck.

Thanks for all your help. The car's now in better hands and in the process of having the Garrett unit fitted - £850 all in, brand new part. Can't really grumble.

Thanks again to all for your help and feedback.

Do anyone know what do I need in order to fit a new garrett turbo on my car beside the turbocharger itself? What gaskets or pipes it's indicated to replace at the same time? Thanks. My car: Octavia 2, Engine code:BKD

Go for hybrid, I made the mistake of getting standard replacement and now I'm on the road to hybrid :D:D:D
