Oil on engine block

Featured Replies

Is it normal to have a bit of muck and oily grease around and at the bottom of the oil filler cap as indicated on this pic? It isn't my engine BTW, just a generic 1.8T

Cheers

Probably just a slightly careless top-up. I have all sorts of trouble getting every single drop in, and even the tiniest amount of oil makes a heck of a mess. Wouldn't worry about it personally...

Yeah mine was plastered in it when I took the cover off for the first time the other week. I think it's just where past oil top-ups have got a bit sloppy.

Stick some gunk on it, cover the electrics with plastic bags and give it a blast with a steam cleaner

Thanks mate, that's what I thought/was hoping. There isn't any oil anywhere else so I'll give it a clean later and keep an eye on it

i think you just wanted to show off your fancy pipework lol:thumbup:

looks good, front mount and different turbo??

What intercooler has it got on it? I'm thinking it may be the pipework W-Tron has been on about in his thread here,

http://briskoda.net/octavia-i/front-mount-intercooler-fitting/126240/

He wasn't sure if it would fit on an Octy but I guess it does!

That's not a Skoda!

But that pipework is lovely. Look how they've modified the throttle body to take some solid coupling thing! Very nice

Oops, should have read the OP's post a bit better!

So probably a Golf or Audi then.

Sorry to get everyone excited about the engine and pipework. It was just a Google search for the VAG 1.8T engine which threw up this link:

VWvortex Forums: Exalted StageIII 1.8T install w/Quick Clamps

The guy's had a Quick Clamp coupler system custom-made and I agree, it looks pretty good. I think it's an Audi engine?

I, on the other hand, have a bog-standard Skoda 1.8T engine with lovely rubbery pipework :D
