Auto Express says new diesel vRS on way...

Featured Replies

Well its wrong for a starters as the mk1 vrs came out in 2003!!!

I thought the Sport was already lowered compared to the rest of the range?

peroast

What???

repost, he posted the same thread twice.

Just maybe i'd be inclined to believe this, 'IF' they had their facts right about the existing vRS....... "and as with the hit 2004 original, it will get diesel power."

I think they'll be meaning the 2003 original.......

Auto Express is The Sun of car magazines...

i really could do with borrowing a couple of quid off you that you made over all of this right now:rofl::rofl:

as much as i'd like that to be true, its balls according to skoda.

Indeed.

Couple of points here, first AEX has usually got hold of something that could be true - no smoke without fire, second, don't ever expect any marque's dealers to know what is just round the next but one corner, if they did how could they with all honesty sell something that will be getting replaced soon without giving a discount. In my many years (too many) of buying and/or thinking about buying a new car model, "you" the enthousist will always get to pick up what is happening well before the dealer will - they just get transporter loads of metal to sell - so why try to get you to defer your purchase to a later date - you might just jump marques and there is no bonus earned that way!

Edit, Ford told me once that there was no danger of them ever selling cars with 5 gears - that was just a fad by some marques to sell cars! Same marque told me that they had no plans to change to 16 valve engines from 8 valves as that was also a passing phase and it was doomed to fail. The bad news for them was that I believed that they thought it was true and jumped marque to VX who were selling some very nice 16 valve engines (1998cc with 150ps).

This week's issue of A.E. (aka The Sun) also featured the Octavia facelift which is due to arrive in Jan 09 using the 1.4 TSI with optional 7 speed DSG. Could this migrate to the Fabia- or is it wishful thinking ?

the thing is, the dealers have to be told early enough to make sure all the staff know about the car and its features way before its due to come out. i knew about the new superb months in advance, i had driven it months in advance too. same as i knew about the facelift octy for months too. its not just offical channels either, but rumors and spy shots. but normally this type of rumor is quickly backed up by photos showing the test mules. even though its bound to be basically the same as the new fabia, its still going to need testing. if a journo saw them running about testing an exisiting car, they wouold get the camera out and film it im sure. theres been nothing spotted, just idle chit chat suggesting there will be one.

so far skoda have told us the vrs wont be here for years if at all. but think about it, theres no current vrs and even the sport isnt geared up for the same market as the vrs, so why hold back information when it wont do any harm to sales of any exisiting skoda? in fact if we knew it was coming it might hold people off from buying other brands, as they would be waiting for the vrs!

This is highly likely as this is what the Ibiza is getting, except with 170BHP.

If indeed it is this engine, then one of the diesel's advantages is (almost) anulled anyway as the 1.4TSI is very good on fuel and CO2 emissions.

Wanting an automatic Fabia, it was Hobson's choice, since the 1.6 petrol Tiptronic is the sole one. Although I am very pleased with it, there is no way it can compete with an oil burner's economy/emissions but I feel it wins hands down regarding refinement. A 1.4 TSI married to a DSG transmission would for me, on paper at least, be near perfect providing it is much smoother in auto mode than some other marques automated manuals - most appear to be better when in sequential mode but jerky in full auto mode.

Perhaps those with DSG experience could comment?

when i baught my new fabia i spoke to the owner of the garage, who told me that! there will be a 1.4 fabia which will have the 1.4 golf gt engine and a 140bhp TDI with the option of a DSG gearbox!

in the story about the lowered sport, they say the vRS Fabia II is due out "Next year"

In their "Coming soon" section of all sorts of cars, they say it's due Spring 2010.

Wish they'd make Skoda's mind up about it ;)

i read the same auto express their is a NEW diesel vrs. and i read the in another motor mag that they are putting the new 1.4 turbo petrol unit as well. The same one as in the new superb. skoda say they can get up two 175 bhp. But not decided how much bhp as yet

as far as I was aware there was no intention of VRS until the current fabia has had a facelift and then they were talking about doing the VRS model. I say roll on when the Superb VRS turns up as that should prove to be very interesting
