In Autocar's review of the new Superb they've taken on their staff fleet, one of their criticisms is that its no longer good enough to provide an aux input (3.5mm jack point presumably like the one on the Octavia) for connecting your iPod.

Does anyone know what other cars get that's better? What are we missing out on?

I believe the Kia Ceed has a proper iPod connector so that you can charge and control it through the stereo.

Their complaint centres around the fact that VW cars get a new interface called MDI which supports full iPod control, USB and standard AUX in. You simply pick which adapter cable you need.

With the RNS510 (VWs equivalent of the Columbus), MDI also allows full touchscreen intregration with the iPod. There is no technical reason why Skoda couldn't have fitted MDI to the Superb. I suspect it was simply a marketing thing.

I believe the new facelifted Octavia is going to get MDI as an option, so there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

A family member has an audi RS4 with a factory ICE system that has a nice slide-in ipod dock in the glove box and can be controlled via the stereo. Lovely system and prob does a hell of a lot more (Ive only been in it twice), but for the price of the car Id expect it as a minimum.
