resetting feul cut off

Featured Replies

I read that in the event of an accident where the airbags deploy the fuel is automatically cut off, how is it reset as you might need to move the vehicle after the accident?

If you have crashed fast enough to deploy the airbags seriously my friend the only way the car will be moved is with a recovery truck!!!! it will be f**k*d and you really won't feel like driving.

i had a rover that the fuel cut off was behind the ash tray, great little security device. other company cars had an anti joyride device which was a plate on springs in the spare wheel area of the boot. The idea was if it went over a bump to hard it would automatically cut the fuel as the only person driving like that would be a little thieving scum. quite embarassing when you have to explain to the transport manager why the device has been triggered on a country road

This is an interesting subject. The fuel cut off can be triggered by quite a small bump...even quite a low speed bump into the back of another car can do it from what I've seen. Fiat Punto's used to do it even bumping up the kerb when they first came out...or even cornering sharply at speed. Dunno how to switch it back on though...yet!

Ford Sierras used to be notorious for this -even hard braking could trigger it. Luckily the reset was in the spare wheel well, but it wasnt mentioned in the handbook!

There is no actual cut off like is fitted to some Fords etc.

Crash data from the airbag ecu shuts off the fuel in the event of an accident.

And to reset, you just switch the ignition off and then back on again.

Nope, if crash details are recorded in the airbag ECU unless its a new type as fitted to later A5 chassis cars the ECU has to be replaced.
